leaf spring lowering blocks

So, I'm looking to pick up some u-bolts for my 8.8 swap. It's actually been difficult to find the correct ones, so I started looking at explorer lift kits that have the blocks and hardware included. This has proven fruitful, but need some help in determining the block size to get. 1 or 2 inch??? I have mid eye 1 inch drop leafs also. I want this thing low and lean so the tires tuck in the wheel well.

I have agree with Mark, lowering blocks suck.

If you have to use them, the ones from Speedway Motors are the best that I have found that are not supper expensive billet alum.

They come in all sizes too - the 1" size would be my guess but the only way to tell is get the car on the ground with the leafs you have, then use Pizza - N - BEER and most of your friends to figure out how low it should be.

I'm not an advocate of lowering blocks, but in my search for a 3.25 u-bolt and hardware for the 8.8 swap I've found not many options. When I expanded my search to lift kits for the explorer, I've found alot more options and the prices are cheaper than what I've found on just a set of u-bolts. So, I may or may not use the blocks, but in case I want it lower, I've got the blocks for free in essence.

Bill, you could also do that nifty trick that John does with swapping out diff leafs in the springs.

That's what I'll eventually do. Just needing to pick up u bolts to get this thing as a roller.

Rebuilding the leafs is always an option. I have yet to buy a new set of leaf springs for any of our cars. I rebuild them to get the ride height and spring rate I want using pre-owned leaf springs.

It can be a long - long - long process and can challenge your idea of what time is worth. I've done the leafs on my Red '66 4 times to get it right. I did the leafs on the Mule one time and it landed the way I wanted. You never know till it's on the ground.

I'd give them a try first and allow a little time for them to settle down before adding blocks. My guess is the height will be "exactly" where you want with one inch or two tucked.

And now some stupid questions. Does the perch go on top or bottom of the axle? I know the leafs go under so... I traded my original 8 in on this 8.8 and I've forgot. Also, I won't have a drivetrain in so can I just set the pinion angle 3 degrees up and be ok when I'm welding the new perches on?

Bill

Perches would be on bottom of axle tubes. Not sure how you are going to set the angle. Suspension should be loaded to do so.

If you have to make it a roller, I would tack them and plan on moving them when you have your drive train in place.
