Last time I have someone else work on my car.

I have been really low on time this summer. I haven't had any time to work on the car. I went on vacation this week and decided to have the shop that did my body work install my Cobra rear brakes. Pretty basic job, just time consuming when you have to take the axles in to have bearing pressed and such.

I went down to pick up the car yesterday after I filled the kiddy pool for my kids once we returned from the trip. The brakes were done but the ebrake was not hooked up. That is fine there was a little confusion about the parts. I drove the car home and looked at the brakes. The were black where the pads were rubbing and the calipers were touching the rotors on the back side. WTF? Instead of installing the brakes with the correct spacer between the brackets they used it as a washer! Didn't they even take it for a test drive or do they leave the testing up to the customer? I spent about an hour in the garage today fixing the problem.

Does anyone else feel that others just don't give a crap about the work they do?

I guess I will have to go down there tomorrow and discuss the problem with them.

Time or no time, I do everything I'm capable of doing myself. If I'm too busy, the car sits and waits till I'm ready. Nobody is going to take pride in your car like you do.

+1.

I have a local guy I trust, but I still try to do everything I can myself. It's hard to know who to trust.

Part of the problem today with society. Everyone is become lazy. Did you take pictures of things before you fixed stuff?

I didn't take any pictures. The guy and I have a pretty good relationship. He did not have the bill ready and asked me to come back some time this week to square things up.

This is why I do EVERYTHING to my cars except machine work on the block {however, I do the valve jobs on the heads as well as install the cam bearings}.

I learned a long time ago that there were people who had no business working on cars.

I've found that most shops can fix problems with your everyday vehicle, but when it comes to something custom or out of the ordinary they are clueless.

Engine machine work, paint and alignments are pretty much the ONLY things that get farmed out at my house. There' just too many idiots to figure out which people you can trust to do the job correctly.

Beside, I can't afford both the cost of parts, AND the cost of labor!

Pretty much the same for me. I hired a body guy to work out of my garage for the body work. I completed most all of the metal work ahead of time. I'm hands on (and eyes) with every aspect of the work.

Sorry to hear that. You just can not trust anyone these days. That is why I am trying to do all I can on my car.

I paid the bill today and they only charged me for the time it took them to tear it apart and put the bearings on. No assembly time was billed to me. I guess I can't complain about that.

Every time I find a place I like, the next time I take it in, they do a lousy job. It is like they do a great job to get you business and then do not care to keep it. I am also looking for a place to do my power brake upgrade since I am lout of commission because of my knee issue but can not find a place I like.
