Just to make those of you who live in the snow jealous....had to mention that I drove the Mustang to work today after lunch. It is cloudy and in the high 40's here and even had a very slight amount of drizzle on the windshield coming to work but I don't care. The Stang has been off the road so much lately I decided screw it and drove it. It needed to get out and run a little to charge the battery anyway and I was also looking for any bugs that still need to be hashed out.

Does winter mean one stops driving???? nah.....sunshine, dry roads.....time to cruise to the coast. :beat

I still drive mine and it's been in the 30's. I don't think I'd drive in the kinda snow Patrick and Ryan have but I have driven mine in snow (once). I can't tell you how many people ask me why I drive it on rainy and bad weather days. The ONLY reason I wouldn't drive it in snow up North would be the SALT. In fact my first car, a 67, was my DD and I had to drive in the midwestern snow. In fact this was back when they still made snow tires and I had a set of wheels and tires for summer and a set for winter with snow tires for the rear.
Here is an old pic with my 1st Mustang (67 coupe), my 2nd Mustang, a highland green 67 FB and my 3rd car a 72 Torino and snow. The Torino belonged to my dad in this picture but I bought it from him later. I was driving the green FB as my DD when this shot was taken.

Craig, they still make snow tires. A lot of my customers have extra rims for their studded snows.

really? I haven't seen any in so long I thought people just had "all season" tires.

All season??? You mean there's more aggresive tread than cheater slicks?

Gotta love the color on that coupe...

I painted it "Brandy Wine Metallic" but it kinda changed with the sun or darkness.

those are more like what I considered "all season", the "snow" tires I'm talking about look like tractor tires with big knobby tread that you would only put on the rear of the car.

I know the ones you are talking about. The ones in the link are snow specific tires. Softer compound and pretty impressive lugs when you see in person. Like the old ones youre talking about, you can run these year round but they would be loud and wear quickly.

that's cool, I didn't know they made snow specific tires anymore. It's hard to find a picture of the old ones but I think this is close. Most people back in the day, would only swap the rear tires for winter and keep their regular tires on the front so cars with nice factory wheels would look a little silly in the winter.

I actually had you in mind Mark when writing the post. You hadn't given me the finger in a few days and I was feeling unloved....LOL!

Glad I could help!!

BTW, I have studded snow tires on extra wheels for both of our Foci, those things are awesome in the snow and ice. First used them when we lived in Bend, Oregon. It doesn't help in drifts, but everywhere else it makes driving in snow not much diff than dry roads!

I have an extra set of rims for my 2005 Mustang. I have two studded snows in the back that are pretty aggresive and two regular snow tires up front. She gets around like a champ until I take the traction control off to do some cookies. The wife doesn't like those :lol
