Is this decklid worth the effort?

Found some ugly in the decklid. Decklids aren't terribly expensive, but I want the duck tail spoiler. I had always planned to buy the quarter extensions for the duck tail and fabricate the spoiler on the decklid from metal.

Anyhow, after finding this, should I fix it and stick to my plan or just buy fiberglass? I'm not really wanting fiberglass.

Do you think trying to fabricate the ducktail spoiler out of metal on this decklid is worth it?

You are going to want to peel that skin back to treat any rust between the folded skin and inner structure. I bought a used deck lid that looked a lot like that, but decided for the amount of time it would take to fix it right, I might be better off with an aftermarket deck lid. I can't really say the aftermarket lid saved me any time... just no rust. Later on I scored a perfect original will eventually go on my car.

If you are going to do the ducktail, you could possibly cut the lower fold off and then rebuild the bottom of the decks inner structure with a simple L shaped piece of 0.030" thick steel. My guess is your going to cut off the rear profile of the deck lid anyway, so this might not be too big of a deal.

what he said...

Well, to be honest I had planned to just stick a piece of metal up the vertical edge. After finding this rust I will incorporate it into the skin now while fixing the fold over area.
