Is there a preferred order when populating doors on a 65 FB?

I pulled everything out of my original passenger's side door last night to move to the new door for test fit. But, it wasn't pretty, I just took all the bolts and nuts off, then randomly started pulling crap out... can someone give my a step by step that has been through this on the preferred order for re-assembly?

Thanks,

Jeff

I always put the door together first (glass, seals and hardware) then hang it on the body. For the rear gap I use a paint stick to set it. The under the door gap well, it may be as much 3/4 of an inch. Try to line the body line up first then adjust the in and out on the door itself. Did you reskin the doors? A picture would be nice.

I am in the same boat, I have my new doors on the car and painted and am going to start migrating the innards over from the old doors and would like a few tips on what goes in first etc..

I know my sound deadaner will go in first because these things sound like a drum already, after that it's all a guess.

Door glass last. I start with the latch mech, then go to the other end and do the wing assy. AS long as you do the door glass and associated stuff last you'll be fine. Once it goes in everything else is difficult if not impossible to get to.

OK, so here is what I'm thinking:

1. complete door latch assy
2. latch side internal door glass track (loose)
3. vent window and track assy (loose)
4. window crank/regulator/scissor assy
5. drop in the glass
6. door glass felt strips

sound right? I have no idea, totally guessing based on the what I have seen now that it is apart...

It's been a while since I had to do mine, but that sounds right to me. I think you'll need to remove the window stop on the latch side track in order to install the glass.

that is how we just did both doors in our 65 fastback. I will add that you can change out the regulator and scissors with the window in the car as well as the rear window track and latch assembly if necessary. Your order would definitely be the preferred order of events.

If you find that your doors are populated, probably best to order an exterminator! Don't thank me for this advice. It's free.

Better yet......

1. Get a plane ticket (1st class, isle seat) for me to come out and show you how to do it.
2. Call you local house of pleasure to arrange late night entertainment for me.
3. Get in your car to pick me up at the airport, don't forget to grab some beer on the way.
4. Wished you never read this suggestion...

:thu

But seriously, all the above suggestions sound good. What type of sound deadening are you using? Paint on or apply a sheet of it? No matter which, be sure to really clean the surface of the inside skin for the best possible adheasion. Nothing worse than some of the deadening to come unglued and get tangled up in your door's hardware.

Every single nut and bolt was off my son's '65 fastback when we started. We rebuilt the whole car. I think the single hardest thing to do was the doors, I can't remember the exact order, but I do know I took them apart several times trying to get everything in. Big PIA!!

Not funny... One of my doors had a giant mouse nest in it that I sucked out with the shop vac... nasty stink and dead mouse #4 that I have found in my car... 10 years in a chicken coop will do that I guess.
