I'm on a few different forums and have found over the years I tend to prefer forums privately owned and run. If they are a "one man show" even better. Somehow the personality of the owner influences the overall tone of the forum. Downside of that of course is that if you don't LIKE the "tone" you have to ease on out to another place.
