So far I have pulled out the seats and carpet out to install seats from a '99 Mustang.
Been looking for carpet, my local Mustang place said they can get ACC carpet in charcoal. So I am waiting on carpet sample to make sure it matches. :headac
Pulled out the heater box and putting a kind of delete plate since I don't drive it in cold or rainy weather. I test fit the back seats tonight to get an idea of how much gap there is between the seat and rear panel. I am trying to figure out a 3 point seat belt place for the rear also. I still have some issues to work out but isn't that what these old cars are all about?
 
Interesting project! I don't recall seeing a late-model rear seat install. I'm eager to see the results.

Me too. Looks like a pretty close fit.
 
I got some info from him on what he did on a couple things.
My main challenge is covering the gap with something after putting in the upper seat belt point.
 
You're referring to the gap between the seat side and the side interior quarter panel trim - correct?

Did the donor car, for the seats, have a carpeted type package tray by chance? If so, could you scab that carpeting out and fab a metal pan/cover to span from side to side, behind the seat extending to under the quarter panel trim, and carpet the two exposed ends/sides; that way it would match the seat and maybe blend into the quarter panel trim decently.

And the carpet could be sliced around the seatbelt mount to help conceal it better. And the metal plate could suffice as a mounting point for your shouler harness as long as it is beefed up to support that.

Aren't you here in KC as well? Or close to...?

I plan to use some 1/8" steel to put behind the upper mount point to reinforce. I was thinking some charcoal carpet to conceal some of it but still will have that gap there though.
 
I'm saying fill that entire gap with steel and carpet the whole thing. I think it would look like part of the seat then.

and where at in Indep.? My parents are on the east side - on 24 highway, a little east of 291. I'm over there some in my stang.
 
I am near the stadiums, off Sterling a little north of 40 hwy
I need to stop by and see Joe at Mustang Plus there off 24 hwy. Nice guy and they have a ton of new and used Mustang stuff. He said he sells the ACC carpet, so he was going to get me samples of the charcoal to see if it matches the seats. Once I get it all bolted in I will see how much of a gap there is, it might be small enough to put in a small strip of carpet.
 
I'm not thinking floor type carpet though, I'm thinking that real short fiber type that is user in newer cars for interior panels, etc. I think that would blend with the seat well. And the flat "space" would be a nice location for the shoulder harness to rest when not used.

Yep, I had it in me for sure. Just used Mids garage and tools, plus an extra set of hands.......always nice to have help.
 
Thanks. Mine are Coupe seats so they still split and fold forward as they did in the '04's. Still tinkering on the base though. Know what I want to do, just been side tracked with little things like bump steer....
 
Update on what I have done:
Made reinforcement brackets for the retractors
mounted the retractors and lower and upper points
cut the metal top of the upper seats
