I was decoding the data plate on my car. I've done this in the past but I was double checking my notes on the date of manufacture. Turns out it was Feb 23, 1966.

That's not the interesting part though. I always assumed the car was red (it's current color) out of the factory. But when I decoded the data plate it turns out it was Ivy Green Metalic out of the factory.

Not that I plan to repaint the car anytime soon much less do I plan to paint it Ivy Green (or GO for that matter, LOL!) but it was just kind of interesting to me.

These cars have a lot of history we are not aware of, even if we've owned them for many years. I was under the impression my 69 was red until the Marti showed up.

From what I know about mine...it was purchased by an old guy and driven for however many years. He parked it and didn't do anything with it for a good deal of time, maybe 10 years.

Then his grandson fell in love with it so they put a new motor in it, had it painted and he drove it when in college.

It was then sold at some point to someone else who then sold it the family I bought it from.

I have the names of some of the previous owners on old receipts and I have debated trying to track them down and call them before but I always wonder if they would think I was some sort of crazy person.

I'd love to know more about it's history though.

Not ot hijack your thread but I too had a strange run in with a car..
I bought an original 1967 GT500. The car checked out fine (needs resto) but I learned that some goob sold a shleby GT500 Clone at Barret jackosn and said he had the parts from my car number. I researched and found the guy and he said "A guy told me that my parts were from your car" I then explained to him that he is full of S*(& and he couldnt believe me especially when I showed him my car and the numbers. feel sorry for the buyer :scar

I have no idea why Ivy Green was such a popular color back then. I am not old enough to have bought a vintage Mustang new, but old enough to remember seeing them on the streets in mass numbers. My coupe did not have the turn signal hood from the factory, and the one that I found was Ivy Green. :eek:mg fd

I know when I was a kid in the mid 70's or so my grandmother had a Ford Maverick that was green. My grandparents always drove Fords because my grandmother worked at the local Ford dealer for years after they sold the Dairy farm and moved to town. Employee pricing and all....

Regarding paint.I thought that my convertible , who had at that time some kind of lime green paint scheme, came orig with acapulco blue because when i stated sanding the car , that color came up.I bought the Kevin Marti report and it showed that the orig color was Springtime yellow. Was that a surprise.!

Really? Maybe this will bring back some memories.....
