Intake is leakin. Got any helpful secrets??

I know your pain...I have just gone through the exact same problems with my 428.

Intake was leaking - Turned out my Edelbrock intake was machined wrong. I got a new one which fixed that problem but when you are fitting the intake use the Distributor as a locating pin. +1 on throwing the cork away. Apply sealant, seat intake, install distributor then torque bolts in correct pattern. If you follow this sequence you should not have a leak. Have you tried pressure testing your cooling system to eliminate if it is the intake or the engine causing is the problem? Where is the water leaking too? Into the engine or out of the engine? Are your cylinder heads seated correctly? What cylinder head/intake gaskets are you using? Has it ever sealed? Are you sure you have the correct intake to match your cylinder heads?

Where is your carb leaking? Where the bowl meets the main housing? Or is it overflowing? Have you checked your floats/needles? Is the seal between the bowl and housing in place and in good condition? All blots tightened?

Maybe some pics would help.

I would be happy to talk to you on the phone and share my experience/troubleshooting which might be quicker. Feel free to PM me for my number.

Thanks,

Johnny

I've been using the cork for the past 30+ years without a leak. I learned early on to

them in place first and they'll never move.

I use high tack a lot. Water pumps, fuel pumps, valve covers, etc. get it so when the piece is removed, the gasket comes with it. Makes life a lot easier.

For the intake, I high tack the cork to the block and then set the intake on with a thin layer of RVT on top of the cork.
Same here. Once you set the gaskets with the High Tack, all your worries are gone.
