I've never cared for my seating situation in the 66. Move the seat so my legs are comfortable and I'm too far from the wheel. Perfect for the wheel and I'm too close for my legs. Makes it hard to brake, heel & toe shifting. Currently the new full containment seat is great for my legs but causes my leg to hit the underside of the wheel while braking/shifting.
I don't want to rip it all out and lower the seat pan unless that is my only or last option. I have a removable wheel and had this thought.

What about making a spacer that will go between the back side of the wheel and the hub? I only need the wheel to move towards me 1"-2" and it would fit great.
 
A fine machineshop could make you a spacer .But after that , your steeringwheels sits a bit higher , so you have to tilt the whole steeringcolumm.Right ?
 
Maybe a new machined hub is the best/strongest way to use, cause the six bolts needs to be longer and will weaken the construction.
You steeringwheel has to deal with some forces during racing so a new machined hub is probably the best / durable way to go.

Dude: get a wheel with an additional 2 inches of dish! Problem solved.
 
a spacer will work, and would probably even look good if done right. you might want to consider though a new column from idit instead. that way you can get tilt and telescoping in one unit.

Yeah, a new column is not happening.
 
Ok, all fixed! I called Jeremy...YES...THAT Jeremy and he was able to make me a spacer. It's nice to have friends with cool tools!!!

I gave J all the measurements and he picked up a chunk of 6061 aluminum and worked his magic!

I drilled the 3 holes so it would mount to the quick release and then re mounted the wheel to the Q-R. Bought some new SS screws for a better look over the old black headed screws. I now have more room between the wheel and my legs and the wheel a bit closer to me is much better too.

Actually, monkey arms. The distance to the wheel was too far and my arms would end up too straight causing my arms to tire too fast. With the wheel closer my arms will have a nice bend to them and should tire less.
 
You could have used your ears instead of arms/hands for turning the steering wheel...plenty of extra length there.

Good job, Jeremy! But it would look better with a Christmas-sweater motif for a spacer cover.
 
Dang Mark, that spacer is like 3" long. You really did lose some arm length when your ears where growing.
