I'm impressed with the Humphugger console

As far as I can tell its the B&M Quiksilver ratchet shifter. As for moving it or replacing it with a stock auto shifter, that sounds complicated for my mechanically challenged mind. :lol

Switching back to a stock shifter would be simply, the B&M is operated with a cable and could also be easily moved. My guess would be the PO mounted it there for ease of access. Did he have a baby arm?
 
Easy to move since it is a cable connection. Most likely just unbolt/screw it from the floor and put it where you want it. Look up the mounting/install instructions on line and see what it takes.

Mounting a stock would be easy to.

These things are not hard at all. There is nothing that a determined person cannot accomplish.
 
Before you start ripping out the B&M shifter, crawl under and take a look at the mechanism on the tranny. On my old coupe that I bought, it had a B&M shifter and was setup for racing, the PO cut off one of the arms on the shifter shaft. IIRC, it was the kickdown that was cut off, but it's been awhile since I looked at that trans and my memory fades fast. It looked like that was done to make room for the B&M adapter.
 
the Humphugger would still work but it (or any other console) will be so far back that using it for an armrest or cupholders will be for passengers in the rear seat!
I know the old "If it ain't broke.." thing but you could quickly and easily determine if the shifter can move forward just by taking out the screws holding it to the floor. If it looks like a big job, just put the screws back in, if it can move with just drilling a few new holes, you win!
