Identify this car

My cousin is trying to identify this car. He's a car guy from way back so it's surprising this has him stumped:

Pretty sure the one on the right is a 1954 Ford Station Wagon.

Still working on the one on the left.

That would be a 53 or 54 would it not?
 
The sports car is a 50's era kit car I think. I am having trouble pinning down exactly which one, but pretty sure it is a kit.

May possibly be a production car from one of the smaller, only made a few manufacturers.

I'll post a pic when I find it.

After an exhausting search, I have not been able to find anything remotely similar. I searched every known car manufacturer from 1950 to 1958 which is the date of the picture.

There is nothing with the same or even close to the type of grille on that car.

I did see and learn some cool things about sports cars of the era. Like the Kaiser Darrin.

Funny you mention the Kaiser Darrin. When I saw the OPs picture my first thought was Kaiser. I looked at some pictures of Kaisers on the interweb and saw the Kaiser Darrin. Not the same car of course, but kind of similar.
