HVAC gasket kit quality?

Is there some better? I can't tell.
I rebuilt my '67 AC heater/AC box a couple of years ago and set it to the side. Finally got to the point where I might put it back in the car and noticed some of the foam seals had degraded almost as bad as the decades old foam they replaced. Apparently they aged out and started crumbling from just sitting in the garage? F'in great. So I don't get to put that back in yet and get to go through it again. Not a huge deal there, but how do I know another seal kit will be any better?
 
I don't know, but would be interested in knowing where the one you've got came from, if you remember- just so I can avoid it. When in doubt I buy from NPD.
 
I remember when I rebuilt the air box for my car finding the materials to be of suspect quality. I ended up using many of the pieces as templates for cutting out new pieces from other material I purchased elsewhere I knew to be of much better quality/durability. It's tough anymore to find good stuff in any pursuit.
 
My NPD stuff looked pretty good. Didn't sit around as long as yours before installing it but it was several months.
 
The big issue is that they all might be "bad". How do we know? I imagine 99.9% of people probably rebuild their box, rebuild the car, and the heater box never gets looked at again.
 
I just did mine and my gasket set was from Carpenter...most likely from NPD.

The gaskets are MUCH different than the originals. They require some compression overnight so its not a fast ordeal.....it was one of my last posts on VMF before I got banned. I also realized with the end cap seals for the heater core, made it impossible to put the case back together with the DC gaskets.

The flapper door to let fresh air in is one and so is the one that you adjust the heat. I compressed them by putting a bunch of sockets on it overnight.....you will see when you do it which ones need compression so it works and seals properly once its all together. Just have patience. :)

I don't recall having any fitment issues at all with the foam kit I used. So maybe the newer one you guys are talking about is better than what I bought. We can hope. I've redone tons of stuff of my car so it would just be one more to me and no big deal. (Helps the re-do attitude that the HVAC box is still not actually installed)
 
My seals are 20+ years old and are in need of re-doing, but not so bad as to make it to the to do list yet. This type of foam seems to get brittle real fast if exposed to chemicals in the air. Pretty common for our garage/workshops. Once in the car they tend to be more shielded from degrading aerosols.
