How to remove drip rail molding

Good afternoon everyone, I'm trying really hard to salvage as much as I can and haven't found anything online in regards to removing the drip rail molding without royally messing it up. Anyone have any tips or tricks to accomplish this?

Use a "church key":

The rounded end, not the pointy end. Use a shop rag under it and pry out on the edge of the moulding, starting at one end and working your way to the other end. Be VERY careful.

Do not use it for the intended purpose first. After both sides are removed.....then use the church key for the intended purpose.
 
I wonder why it is called a church key. Probably used after church quite a bit...
 
There is sparse, and often contradictory, documentation as to the origin of the term "church key", though most[who?] agree the phrase is a sarcastic euphemism, as the opener was obviously designed to access beer, and not churches.

I used a wooden paint stick instead of the chruch key. Essentially I used it as a chisel on the underside lip of the drip rail molding and tapped the stick with a hammer until the bottom of the molding started to pull loose from the rail itself then moved the stick a few inches farther along and repeated until I had worked my way all around the molding. IIRC, I started at the rear and worked my way toward the front of the car.

Thanks everyone, I think I might have some of those paint sticks from HD in the garage somewhere and I know for a fact I have a "church key" in the kitchen.

In case the first method fails, what kind of tape do you use on the "Church Key" Rich?

When I had my car painted, I also had this dilema and heard others mention they can damage upon removal/reinstall. Mine were (are) perfect so I just elected to keep them on and the shop just masked them off. I'm glad I went this route, but it may not be for everyone.

Don't think it really matters too much as to what tape to use. I'd just use blue masking tape.
 
I just use 3/4 3M masking tape. What would work better than the paint stick would be a fiber stick or what we call a bone in the glass business. I will try to take a picture of oneand post it tonight. Gota go paint a pepper grey car for, Talk later. Rich.
 
Come on guys, stop messing with the boy. Abe, you need to go to a specialty auto paint store and ask them for the "drip rail removal tape"...trust me, they'll know what you need!

Mine were really good and I kind of wish I had done this route now mine are ok! :)
