Houston bound!

Either tomorrow or Friday I'll be heading down to Houston to go parts shopping at Johns Mustang. :yah Need to pick up a cowl vent, fender/cowl brackets, and a side cowl panel (the piece below the cowl in front of the door). Pretty sure that's everything I need to work on the front end. Unless I can convince hubby to let me spend more of his money on bushings for the front suspension. :roll

The fun part is going to be putting the cowl vent in the backseat of the Lexus. Maybe I should wait until Saturday to go. We should have a truck Saturday. :confu Then hubby has no excuse like 'can't buy too much, no room to get it home'! lol

I have found John's useful for two things.

If I need something fast I can order it and get it the next day paying ground rates. With the price of gas the last few years it's cheaper to have small items mailed. Where John's is really useful is the few times I was picking up larger sheet metal pieces that I didn't feel like paying truck freight for. You'd be surprised how much crap you can fit in the back of an Explorer with the seats folded down :roll

John's is not in the most wonder part of town however. I usually take my pistol with me when I go down there but I've never had any problems.

I've been there once to pick up a few things during the summer. I figure a cowl assembly cost around $379-399 (depending where it's ordered from) not including shipping.. and would just be cheaper to drive down there to get all the things I need. Of course I haven't checked if CJ pony or anything is running any sales or free shipping. :confu

You may want to call them and make sure they have what you want. IT's quite a drive and get there~ oh, we don't have that! lol There's another place in Katy, Mustangmania(I believe Russel is the owner?), much more friendly than Johns (they just seem to be lacking a sense of humor), not that friendliness or a sense of humor should be a factor, it really helps to make spending your money a little more fun! When you buy whatever you're going to buy, make sure you get the "little stuff", screws, whatever, they don't prompt you and they don't offer~ you have to know what you want in detail! I can't think how many times I got something, but couldn't assemble cause I needed something else to make it work!

I like John's because of his inventory.

Mustang Mania has moved out of Katy. They are in Round Mountain, Tx now, a little ways from Austin.

hm, too bad about MM~ I don't see how so many mustang stores can exist~ there's so much competition! In that case, Kat, Johnsmustang is just fine!

CJ Pony has a cowl a few dollars cheaper than Johns Mustang... and it look like I can get free shipping on it! :thu

They've been pushing the free shipping a lot of late. When I bought my third member last year it was free shipping. The tires were really a good deal since they came mounted / balanced and shipped for free....

Just confirm they actually have it. They (and others) have been known to take an order on a "stock" item only to leave the customer waiting and waiting for it to deliver. Its worth a couple extra bucks buying from a vendor with the part on hand to avoid the agony of waiting weeks for something to show up.

Thank you for shopping at CJ Pony Parts Inc.. We received your order for the following items:
1 COWL1 64-66 COMPLETE METAL COWL ASSEMBLY 2 PC

:pbj :yah :pbj :yah
Looks like while I was at the hospital visiting Buppy, my husband called up CJ Pony and ordered my cowl! :yah I asked if he called to check they have some in stock and they did and so did the order over the phone.

How much do you want to bet since our anniversary (13yrs!) is Sunday, he's going to call it an anniversary present. lol

I might actually accomplish something important on Gertrude now!

What's wrong with that? Just saying :yah :wor

Nothing wrong at all!! I told my husband it was perfectly ok if he got me mustang stuff for birthday, anniversary, christmas, etc. As well as tools! Those are ok too! :thu I'm not a jewelry kind of gal, or fancy clothes, or perfumes. So he hates trying to buy me presents. This will make his life easier! Win-win for both of us.

Oh and I got email this morning saying the cowl was shipped. :pbj
