The Jan. 4 record for a low temperature -- which had stood for more than century -- was broken in Gainesville overnight and nearly broken in Ocala.
According to the National Weather Service, the temperature in Gainesville fell to 20 degrees at 4:34 p.m. That was two degrees colder than the 22 degree record set on Jan. 4, 1900.
In Ocala, the record low for this date was set in 1928 at 18 degrees. Overnight, the temperature fell to 21 degrees, according to the weather service.
