Got the DMV rejection for YOM plates today

I doubt that anyone one would know unless you put it on a public forum that you were running a copy..... :craz

Florida requires that one sends the plate top the main MVD office so it can be validated. No improvements can be made at that time. All must be old and original. After their blessing, I see no way one could tell just driving down the road. The big difference in Fl is the older plates were steel not aluminum. One must check close for that......but I would not mention it to anyone if I had a fake plate....

Yeah, I thought about that. Whatever. I told Craig my home address...if I'm willing to do that, then I have no limits.

It's a misdemeanor.

I know from first hand information that CA doesn't mess around with that. I used to live there. I also don't think CA made a black plate with white lettering. CA guys, help here.

+1 on this. Here's an example that I know:

A guy I know down in Sac was running a fox body mustang with personal plates. I don't remember the exact plates, but he had "50" as part of the plate. He added a small piece of electrical tape to make it "5.0" He got pulled over by the CHP for defacing the license plate.

So, I think that the LEO's would have a hay day if you changed the color of the letter from yellow to white.

OK, in CA, the misuse of a reg sticker or plate is a No No! You don't just get a ticket, you must go see a judge. I put a sticker on my car and forgot to put the reg in the glove box. I got pulled over and even though I had my badge,, off duty weapon and my work ID, I guess I looked like a fibber! I got charged with misuse of registration and had to see the judge. Yes, the judge dismissed the case, but it was a major PIA. I had to report it to my boss and go through a full blown investigation until my department was happy.

OK, now for the OP, he wants to make the plate black and white. I would think that if you have a plate with the right letter number order and made them black and yellow you could probably get away with it, but CA never used Black with white letters, so you could have real issues. LEO can impound the car untlil you get a temp reg and not allow it on the road as well.

So, my advice in CA is don't mess with it man.

Now in Utah they have some different letter number combos for each year. Also the colors changed every year for a while. For instance my 65 which is a blue car has blue with white plates, but my 67 has green with white plates. Looks like an old CO plate.

In Utah it was easy, I found the set on Ebay and bought them. I took them to DMV, (Well here it is the tax assesor's office) and paid the reg fee and asked to put my plates on the car. I paid $35 reg and showed the safety check....about 10 min later they were copied and ready for mounting.

Some year plates are rare so I had to pay over $100 for my 65 plates, the 67 plate were $40. Some years Utah made more plates than others. When I go out of state I get some strange looks at the plates from LEOs.

HTH,

Mel
