I went up to the 2011 SVT Superfest / SCCA-36 at Virginia International Raceway last Saturday and had a great time. Lots of high dollar machines, from a Hollman Moody GT40 to a brand new Boss 302. The racing was spectacular.. even from a spectator's point of view.
Ford had a nice spread there with some of their engines displayed along with a Boss 302. Most of the other vendors were Shelby specific and didn't have a lot for a non-Shelby owner like myself.
One of the main reasons that I wanted to go was to meet Shaun from Street or Track (Street or Track LLC). My entire front suspension and f/r brakes was purchased from his shop and I wanted to finally meet the person that I had spoken to on several occasions and at the same time talk a little shop. Shaun even let me take his 66 coupe on a couple of parade laps (by myself.. hows that for trust??). His car pretty much has the same suspension/brake setup that I have... coilovers up front with sport valving, Cobra 13 inch/11.65 inch brakes, 1-1/8 sway bar. The rear is a little different, but close enough that I can get a good feel with how my 65 will handle and brake when I get her on the road here in the next few weeks.
My impressions: WOW!! On one particular straight, the traffic flow got pretty fast, so I was able to get a good feel for the car at speed, and in a word: Solid. Very predictable, with very little body roll. Braking was powerful and easy to control.
I want to start open tracking now.
Should I care if my wife will want to divorce me???
I'll have to admit, as soon as I got home, I started working on the Mustang. I'm very excited about this setup.
Thanks again Shaun for the opportunity to run the Stang!!
