fuel tank for a 65

I have heard mention in the past that there may be several choices in fuel tanks for a 65. I was hoping to put a larger than stock tank in, but was curious as to which years would work? The 16 gallon tank won't take this car very far! Will the 22 gallon tank from a 70' fit?

I pretty sure the 22 gal. tank will if but you will have to do something with the filler neck or the tank fill tube as they don't line up.

You'll need to change to that year's sending unit too....

since I am starting from scratch, I will order the parts for the larger tank. I was hoping it would fit right in. Thanks

Location of the snout on the 20 and 22 are in a slight different location as compared to a 65. They are also up higher since the different between these three tanks is the dimension above the mounting flange. Thus you will for sure be modifying the next.

I would assume that it has been done in the past? I would think just cutting and re-angling the neck should do the trick. Is there something else I am missing?

Not really. Using a modified 65/66 neck is the best way to go for it is the straightest preventing potential back splash. You might need to tweak, bend the snout of the tank a little to match up with the end of the filler neck.
