I am "rebuilding" the 1600 engine out of our 74 Super Beetle after I found too much crankshaft endplay. Had to take the whole engine apart, have the crankshaft checked and polished (it was fine) and then have the case cut and line bored. I am in the process of putting it back together (my first time). I picked up the oil pressure check valve off the bench, and I saw a small object fall out of the cup, hit the garage floor and then bounce under the work bench (of course!). Well, now I need that little piece I'm sure I saw fall because it is one of the dowels that locate and hold the main bearings in place. Can I find that little mf'er anywhere? NO! It's a nice, smooth cement floor but it is not to be found. Everything is on hold now while I wait for some new dowels to arrive via mail because of that one that disappeared. Thanks for letting me vent.
