From total denial to rotisserie in one fell swoop!

You guys are right, but friggin' depressing. :hide

The bottom line is that ya can't have a fixed up 60's car for under $30K if you don't do all the work yourself. (Done right that is, there is a lot of shit jobs out there that look all shiny and pretty)

For me, I'm paying for labour on the paint and body.

Clearly most of the posters here have the time and skills to do it all at home. I'm thinking maybe we should partner up and get some of those low buck cars up here and flip them.

But I digress, got a lot of good info on my suspension rebuild, it looks like this now ...

Front;
-monte carlo bar,
-1" sway bar
-shelby drop for caster
-1" lower
-roller perches and pitman.
-disc brake conversion (seems to be a lot of options here any suggestions?)

Rear;
-upgrade leaf springs

- Koni' gas adjustable shocks all around

-15" styled steel with low profile BFG

Thanks for all the info.

Welcome back...
I'm off to work on the final reassembly after the weekend for a two week blitz. Must finish!

So far the numbers are adding up the same, a few changes and because of the time it has taken to get this body guy motivated I have bought many more parts than first intended (of course).

So I'm still on target for the $15,000 mark for disassembly, metal replace, paint and reassembly. The engine has had a lot more work than first decided, tapped rocker posts larger valves and new springs, 5 angle grind, port matched, hyper pistons, 271 cam, hi vol water pump new fuel pp and oil Pp plus the Holley and Edelbrock intake. Headers and new 2" exhaust. The trans needed nothing but got new bearings and seals. Broke down and bought a posi diff and had the entire rear axle blasted, coated and new everything including arcing the shoes. Getting the engine dyno'ed and cam broke in next week also.

Haven't done a comprehensive tally of receipts (have every one) but at last count plus current I expect to be all in for $33,000-$35,000.

66 coupe, Pony deluxe interior, black vinyl roof, base clear metallic nightmist blue, Shelby drop, 2 1/2" x 1 1/2" steel frame rail connected, pro built drive train all new metal everywhere needed, most chrome is new or polished out, front disc conversion, plus this and that... rally pac, monte carlo and export, selective poly bushings, grommets and seals etc. Could have bought something cheaper but this ones mine. The only thing that's not period correct is the billet grille.

BUT...
Not finished yet

For as much as you hired out that is not a bad price tag at all. And that's in Canadian dollars even. Well done.

I understand the $ concern but really...you should stop counting. Just do what you are capable of financially at the time. then move on to the next job...

The $ are always a concern but the limits for my notchback getting finished are time more than money. This thread is more about the reality of doing a restoration. That said this is a practise car. I plan on doing it differently next time around. I would strip it all myself and jobber out body and paint, go with a long block or crate and maybe get some specialist help to design suspension geometry. All the rest would be in house. I'll never hand it off like I did for this guy to sit on for three years.

Next build will be a luxury touring ride with PS PB air etc. a smooth ride and all the creature comforts. I'm liking the 66 FB could be a 69 sport roof with an ecoboost, peel what I can off a wrecked SHO. Impressed with the eco-boost in my FX4

I'd hate to know the cost of my car if I had farmed any of it out. On the other had, I'm still not done 6 or 7 years in but who's counting :)

Terry:
Have you had to remove your shoes yet to count that high?
