ford 8.8 swap questions...

About 6" too wide, IIRC. Want to say the 2005-up is ~65+", whereas the 67-70 rear is 59+"...

I second that. You need one out of a fox body 5.0.

or a SN95 (94-98) if you plan on using Ford Factory wheels of the same era... The 94-98 is 1.5" wider than the fox body rear, has 5 lugs and disk brakes... the only downside is it's still 28 spline axles. With 17x8 and 5.72 backspacing, it fits like a glove in a 67/68.

Yeah, but then you need to use adapters on the fronts. With the fox body rear, you take two left side (iirc) axles from a late 80's ranger, or two right side axles from an aerostar, and take the brakes with you. Instant 5 lug swap, and you can find the donor vehicles at just about any junkyard.

thanks for the info... Are spacers really that bad of a thing? I know cheap ones crack or corrode being dissimilar metals, but are the good (read high $) ones ok? :shrug

FYI, the Fox housing and the SN95 housings are pretty much the same if not exactly the same. The 1.5 additional width is due to each axle being 3/4" longer to give clearance for the rear disk setup. Some guys put the SN95 brakes on 86-93 fox housings using the ranger axles to keep the same track width. To do so they cut a section of the caliper bracket off and with some spacers, mount the bracket on the inside face of the flange.

Depending on what wheels you get, you might be able to get them with different offsets to eliminate the spacer issue too.
