Well I got caught with my pants down for sure. I have many tools in the trunk of the '66. Well, tonight we went to a cruise in about 40 miles away at an older style bee-bop place with lots of cars/trucks. You know, where they are playing Elvis wide open. Lots of nice people to talk to. After a couple of hours she was ready to go so off we went. I did do a little burn as we pulled out...yes everyone was clapping and cheering...lol. WTF is my temp gauge doing on 250!!!!!!!!!! :bomb (elect autometer gauges). I quickly pulled into the movie theater parking lot and cut it off.
Popped the lid and checked everything...don't see a damn thing wrong. :confu I opened the trunk and...where the hell is the electric meter I always keep in there. Whoops I used it working on the '56 and forgot to put it back, arrgghh! So I knew it was the 2 speed elect fan that would not come on. It has 2 relays for the low/high speeds. checked the connections and they looked great. Just had to be a bad ground, so I cut the ground wire from the negative battery post and put it under a bolt on the frame. Still nada. Starting to sweat now, at least the sun was down so it wasn't still 100F +. I finally said to hell with it, after a few minutes, and cut the high speed wire from the relay and wired it directly to the battery and of course it ran fine, just no way to cut the fan off and that was okay as we were headed home. I did check the large fuse that was inline and it was okay, even tried another one. I am glad I had installed an under hood light a couple of years ago as it was very much needed because I could not find the flashlight that I always keep in the car? Stuff just seems to disappear into the black hole that we call a mustang..lol On the side note, the redhead ( wife of 34 years) thinks I am great and wise because I got it running in such a short time...little does she know...lol. :shee

One other side note, the stang threw a horse shoe. I had cleaned the craiger ss wheels before we left and one of the center caps was a little bit loose. I didn't feel like pulling the wheel to tighten it up from the inside...so you know the drill in your head...yeah, it will be okay. Not! It was gone when we got back..swmbo laughed, I did not. :censored

Always when you do a burnout. Had the wife in the car when I decided to do a burnout in front of a friend's house and the heater core let loose. That was interesting. On the flip side I got a lot of "Dude, how did you know to do that?" when I popped the hood, cut the hoses and bypassed the heater core for the ride home.

Maybe the car is telling you to dump the electric fan. You sure you really need it?

I've thought about putting the 6 blade fan back on but there is not much room with the aluminum racing radiator I have in there. That was the reason for the electric 2 speed fan.

I had a similar problem, and it was the SPAL fan controller, not the relay.

I did check out everything and the high speed fan relay was melted on one side. It was a 30 amp and I did some reading and the 2 speed Taurus fan pulls quite a bit more than that at start up. I ordered a 60/40 amp from summit and will put that on to remedy the power situation. I have never had a problem with the setup in several years so it was a surprise for sure.

I have the one I posted, but have yet to install it. I made the purchase after reading alot of threads about the Taurus/Mark VII fan conversion and lots of recommendations for this controller due to the current required for the fan.

Well crud! It did get my controller too. The high speed would not turn on. I spent about 30 min. messing with it and the connections, checking power etc. It is fubared. I will have to get another one. I just hot wired the high speed to come on with a keyed source for now, the only problem is the temp never gets over 150 with the high speed fan lol We rode down to dairy queen for a chocolate dip cone and it was rather cool out tonight. Nice ride! SWMBO might get to feeling froggy later tonight after a nice ride...maybe I'll get a nice ride later...lol :roul
