Hi all

So I have a Magnaflow system (15815) installed on my 65 convertible. Sounds good and to my liking.

However, I am finding it a little bit loud, and even idling in my home garage sometimes sets off my wife's car alarm

It's gotten louder still since I swapped my 289 for a Blueprint crate 302 (306) with the cam, etc.

Though it sounds like a pure muscle car now, I'm looking to either get a system with a valve or replacing the system with one which is not as loud but still offers some good notes.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My magnaflow got too loud after a few track days. And then I had to hack up the nice over the axle mandrel bends winding around a panhandle bar I installed. They sound great to everyone outside the car, lol, but it got to be too much. My motor is 10.5:1 compression and compression is loud... I’ve heard the system on tamer builds and it’s much more mellow.
Long story short I still have them somewhere. I installed some DynaFlow ultras and they sounded like crap and hurt the top end of the RPM range. I then installed some street Spintechs and I’m happy for the moment.
 
So I just ordered a set of magnaflow 14356 mufflers. They are longer than my existing ones and fit my setup. MF say they are a notch down re volume so hopefully that will suit me.

I haven't heard any reviews or about anyone who has done this swap. Hopefully it's a good purchase. This is the quietest I can go from what MF offers that suits my set up and measurements, and I'm not willing to compromise on quality and invest in something that's going to eventually rust etc.

Please let us know if it turns out to your liking. Most of the world seems to like LOUD and I know it will be very difficult to find anything that breathes well and is still quiet enough for my taste.
 
I installed a Dynomax Ultra Flo system on my '17 F150 5.0l. While it sounds amazing, there is a drone when accelerating that is starting to drive me nuts. It actually made my sons girlfriend car sick when we vacationed in the hills of tennessee. I'm swapping it out in the next couple days for a Dynomax Super Turbo to see if it is better. It helps that I actually design these things (I work for Walker (Dynomax)) and can just go grab one off the shelf to try.

The perfect guy to ask- I intend to stroke my 351w to the 400 hp range and use FPAs. I want a system that breathes well but is quite- and i know these are at odds with one another- what are some possibilities?

The hooker tri Y headers with an H pipe to flowmasters is quiet until you stand on it in my 67.

Super Turbos will be quieter than Ultra Flos (straight thru), and we have a fairly new line of VT (valved) mufflers that are fairly quiet til you jump on it, they flow very well. I plan to try one on my truck.

So we installed a Dynomax VT muffler on my truck. Its awesome. Fairly quiet but still has a nice rumble (doesn't shake the dishes in our kitchen when I start it). Hit the throttle and open up the valve and it sounds great! Absolutely no drone. Very happy with it. The VT muffler is basically an Ultra Flo with the valve.

OK just installed. Installation was a bitch because the mufflers are so long!

But, I think i hit the nail on the head now. It's still got it's grunt, but it's slightly more docile. Meaning that slow cruising in a low gear is no longer crazy loud, similarly to sitting at idle. It's noticeably more subtle but still has its bark and bite when called upon. So I'm a happy camper
