Engine date stamp

Hey all,

I have been trying to decode an engine date stamp I have found while doing some engine work, the stamp is on the block just in front of the rocker cover on the drivers side.

Other forums and websites do not list a number like the one I have, it is 2F29K, I think the first four digits decode to year 2, June 29, but what does the K stand for?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Cheers

Might help to know what the engine is thought to come out of....or a brand....or something.....

I think you've got it right, according to Bob Mannel's book. The K is just an inspector's stamp.

What motor is it and what decade do you think it is?

Thanks for the replies guys, not realy sure what the engine is or what the decade is, the engine is in my 66, and with headers fitted it is impossible to get a look at the casting date to confirm decade. My checking has confirmed that the intake is correct and I also have what looks to be the original engine tag, although we all know they can easily be changed over any time.

As far as the decade is concerned I think the most likely would be the 70's, if it were the 60's that would make it a 1962 build 289, not even sure if Ford built a 289 in 62, so more likely 72.

Cheers all
