Emergency Flasher

I really need to get hazard lights on Gertrude. Especially if there's a chance she'll break down again on the side of a dark road at night like she did a few months ago. That was scary but luckily I had car club friends following me and were able to park behind me and turn their hazards on.

Anyway, do I have to buy something like this...

or can it be done using any toggle switch and some wiring? I have a few left over toggle switches that I removed & wiring and figure if I can just reuse, why the heck not. Every penny saved helps!

If it helps any, the harness I got does have some stuff for flashers but I'm not sure if the other harness is still needed?

My fastback didn't flashers in it when I bought it. I bought that wiring harness, and it works great.

What all wiring do you have?

Besides the harness I got from Midlife, I have a few rolls of new unused wiring (bought some when we were thinking of reusing the old dash harness to connect the 66 dash cluster since PO hacked up all the original connectors to make aftermarket gauges work) and tons of left over under dash wiring I pulled out including all the stuff PO added to it. I also have 3 toggle switches that use to be kill switches.

Just looking for ways to save $100 if I can. If there was some way to rig up flashers without having to buy that harness, that would be good. I don't have $100 right now. LOL

That will certainly work. I don't remember whether your harness came with any e-switch wiring (I'll check when I get home), but I can save you $$ over CJ with a refurbished system.

I'd take Mid up on his offer rather than try to do it with bits and pieces resulting in a "hack job". If you had to wait a few weeks or whatever to gather the funds it would still be better. Besides, you don't expect to break down anytime soon do you!

Thanks Mid!

You never know with my '66! :shrug Better to be safe than sorry and have emergency flashers!

OK. You have a late 66 harness that has an integral e-switch system. It ends in a funny-shaped 4 pin connector that would mate to an actual late 66 emergency switch, which I've never seen and I don't believe they are reproduced. I do not have the mate to this connector in my inventory.

You can add the early 66 e-switch harness (the one CJPony sells) and it will work just fine; you can send your harness in and I can take that 4 pin connector and add a switch to it, or you can buy a refurbished early 66 harness from me for only $50. Or, you can simply use your existing turn signals while parked at the side of the road (that's what they did up to the early 60's).

Looks like a good price, too. I remember them being much more expensive a few years ago.

That switch plugs right into your harness--no need for anything else.

You will need a flasher can......but you have the sequentials....correct.....then you need to order the electronic flasher to match the sequentials you have or it will not work.

The plug for that switch should be long enough to reach the glove box or the lower dash lip where they were factory mounted. Of course, you can mount it anywhere.

I have stock tail lights again. I removed the sequentials. They weren't working correctly. They would flicker or only partially work.

Sounds like there were grounding issues.....call the company and ask about them because they are really a reliable product and good company.

I looked on their website and troubleshooting info about them and I did everything I could to fix them but nothing worked. I can try calling and see if they have any other suggestions. Its like they don't fit and make contact all the time. There's a little wiggle room and when the car is running, they wiggle around causing the flickering. If I push/hold them in.. they work fine. :shrug

You may have bad sockets in your tail lights. I had that issue on my first '66 in Az. Regular bulb would work but that same brand sequentials would be intermittent. Had to change out the light assembly....since Ford made them crimped in, it is almost impossible to replace just the socket with much success.

You cover the postage and it's yours. Please note that I do not have either the plate that it normally fastens to nor the threaded nut but let me look around for a nut that might fit.

If ya need the mounting bracket too, just shoot me a PM Kat. I'm pretty sure I have a spare you're welcome to.
