Yes its done.

Craig and Jeff came by yesterday to once and for all diagnose and heal the patient....my oil gauge.

We've gone through the complete oil sending system and everything seemed correct so Jeff brough over a mechanical oil gauge which we hooked up. Oil pressure fine. Next was the sending unit.

Craig brought a portable air compressor which he checked the sending unit with. It gave a reading but not much. changed over to another gauge and it moved. So the oil gauge we were using was faulty.

So Dr.Craig switched out the faces of the gauges (good one was a temp gauge) and also switched the needle since the good gauge had a broken one.

So it all works and now I need to button it all up.

I see what you did there. :thu So you will have fuel, temp and oil pressure gauges on top. Are you leaving the idiot lights connected as well? That is how I have my 67 hooked up, that is with a "T" at the block one side connected to the idiot and the other going to a mechanical oil pressure gauge mounted under the heater controls.

So the gauge itself was at fault, despite you grounding the wire, it still pegged?

Didn't I suggest at one time to swap fuel and oil leads on the gauges to see if it was the gauge? The guts are all the same; only the cover plates are different.

I did the same thing but my tach is from a Cougar so it didn't have idiot lights

No, no idiot light. That was an early option but the proximity of the oil location (on top of the oil filter housing) is too close to the block to allow an adapter which could hold both the sensor for light and gauge.
