Drove the '66 on the highway tonight for the first time in many years

Glad to see you got it sorted out. I've got a friend with a blow through Paxton on his Shelby and know he's using a Demon. I'll find out the specifics on how it's setup.
 
Glad you got to finally drive car. Nice looking ride. Like others said, stick with the paxton, you can make it work. They are way too cool to give up on.

Care to explain this in a little more detail? I'm about to buy a TCP manual rack for my 65. I thought a rack would tighten the steering more than anything. Is it aligned?
 
I was told...that.... the Total Control Rack reduced the turning radius because of how it sits in the car. Basically the spindles hits the rack itself reducing how far the rack would turn the car..
 
If that's true, how does it cause wander and steering slop? How old is the rack? I think TCP redesigned the racks in the past 3 or 4 years. I've spoken with TCP salesmen and they claim the rack is designed for the mustang, not a universal rack made to work in the mustang. They said the steering radius remains stock and bump steer is not an issue. This is coming from salesmen so they could be feeding me a line of crap. Just hate to spend the money and be disappointed.
 
MY TCP is at leat 6 or 7 years old...I think they were a different company back them. I can tell you that I do have bump steer and it does feel mushy. It may be the old design.. The one thing I will say is that it is the only one that "bolted" in without much trouble...

Ok..I got the fuel levels below the windows and it did run much better. Made it to a car show about 15 miles away and back without getting stranded. For some strange reason decided, I decided to make a pass through the neighborhood and it died on me... This time I had tools so I pop'd the hood.. The first thing I noticed is that the clear fuel filter was almost empty of gass.. I took the top off the supercharger bonnet and the carb was spraying into the front bowl.. The windows looked like the gas was a little be lower than it was before.. I then went to crank the car and it started.. In the past, I would have had to wait 20 minutes and this was 5 minutes... When the car was idling, I noticed that gas was bubbling into the filter which seemed wrong.. I had not see it do that before..

My thought is that..
1..It is getting vapor lock when it is hot..
2..The filter is clogg'd
3..fuel pump is bad or getting to hot..(it's a mechanical on the side of the block)

I did turn the front bowl nut a 1/2 turn back, giving it more fuel..

Make sure your fuel venting system is working properly. Bubbles in the filter could be from lack of proper venting, not heat.
 
After driving it for some time, stop the car and open the gas cap. If you hear the whooshing sound of air rushing past the cap, the vent is not working. The cap should have a event hole in it. If the car dies and won't start, try opening the cap and see if that helps.

How old is your current/existing fuel pump?

A brand spanking new replacement fuel pump straight from Mexico/China is usually around $12. For $12 I wouldn't expect it to last very long. If your existing fuel pump has a few years on it.... especially a few years of little to no use..... the paper diaphragm within the pump may have developed a tear/pin-hole that's resulting in it sucking some air out of the crankcase that you're seeing air bubbles in your glass fuel filter.
 
An adjustable fuel pressure regulator wouldn't hurt anything either..... fuel pressure should be set to approx. 4.5 for most applications, but I'm not sure with your blower setup.
 
Would like to try and work on it today.. Do you think Oriley's, PeP Boy's etc would carry a fuel pressure regulator?? Typically order through Summit and the others, but wanted to pick one up locally..

Some of the local auto parts store should carry an FPR.... especially if they have a "speed shop" section.
 
well, you don't really need that blower...so just remove it and send it to me as I have a 600 edelbrock sitting atop a '90 5.0 HO. Just kidding. Glad you enjoyed the first ride after a long time! :ecit
