Does anyone remember this...

I do remember going on a trip to the strip with several VMF'ers but I am not sure if it was that day or not. I still have the write-up in the monthly Mustang Plus newsletter that someone (70sportsroof/Ken Glick or SacBill?) submitted.

Yup, the names are right. What year was that?

That was back in December of 2002. That was a fun day down at the track. Just getting down to the track sucked. I trailered my fastback down from Redding, and I got to have a nice chat with a CHP officer. When the sign says "vehicles with trailers 55", they mean it. :cens

I remember that and I wasn't even there! Kind of like the 1960's....... :yah

You matched up the names with cars correctly AFAIK

I do! I do! Those race days at Sacramento Raceway were always a real boot for all of us old guys. Do you happen to know the date of those videos? I noticed that my vert ran a 15.04 in that video. That would have made it an interim trip between when I first took it to Sacto (15.8s) and my last trip up there (14.3s). Every time I'd make some mods I'd be sure to show up for that track day to find out what the impact was. The last time was for an engine rebuild to include GT-40P heads, a chunkier cam, roller rockers and custom Tri-Y headers as well as 3.55 gears and a shift improver kit for the C4. I must have already had the cutouts on the car for that pass since I can hear the unplugged engine until someone at the line waiting for me to get out of the way starts taching up. Now that I live up here, I'd love to do one of those strip days again. They were a flat out blast.

Reminiscence: The last time I was there, I was second in the inspection line and Johnpro was behind me. The guy who was ahead of me had a primered 66 coupe that was full of body damage and had an equally rough interior. He'd never run at a drag strip before. John and I are in the staging lane and the 66 makes its first pass. Nothing but smoke and haze coming off the car and the e.t. was deep into the 18s. I'm thinking that, on top of being in pretty hard shape, it was a slow oil burner too. By about half way through the day the guy ran a 12.7 pass.:nwort Turns out all that smoke I had seen in the morning was from his tires and he had smoked them all the way down the strip, not knowing how to hook up. Obviously he had spent his money on the business end of that coupe. IIRC, he packed up and went home after that 12.7, satisfied with a great day's work. :yah

You gotta either back off on that wacky tobbacky or move to Denver. Well, take it from me, the 60's weren't that great anyway if you don't count the Beach Boys, Beatles, Stones, Dave Clark Five, mini skirts, free love, GTOs, free love (did I already mention that?)........
