Documenting your restoration

I'm finally getting off my butt in documenting all the specifics I did to Shag such as details of the cleveland, electrical upgrades, transmission, suspension upgrades, blah, blah. Going through all the receipts is a real joy, but I can say it is a good project for it reminds me of all the small things I did to the car.

So my word of advice is for all of you to document as you go along. Don't wait a couple years afterward like me.

I am pretty certain I do not want to revisit the pile of receipts in the corner of the shop. Nor do I want the wife to look at them.

I have PDFs of several documents loaded on my droid in case I ever need info on the road...
68 Mustang shop manual, Painless Mustang Wiring Manual, T5 rebuild manual, restoration project doc with specific details like radiator hoses, wiring details etc...
At home I have a binder with more info including drawings and sketches of custom parts. In the garage I have a box that contains most of the original labels cut from the boxes that the parts came in. Just another way to confirm exactly what is in the engine.

All my reciepts go in 1 drawer... If my wife questions any of them I just tell her that part was needed to fix her car...

At least you guys have running vehicles you can hop into and take for a spin to make all that expense pain go away. When I make the mistake of opening that Excel file all I can do is sigh. That's why I am about to throw even more $ at it so I can at least crank it over once and a while. Even if it can't leave the garage.

I made kind of a cheesy "owners manual" because so much is modified or changed. I thought maybe when I get senile I might need to know what brake pads I need or something like that...
