Disc brake question....

If i found a 73 mustang with front power disc brakes, what is usable to convert my front drums over.... This guy is parting this out, so if anyone needs anything specific, i can check into it.
 
Hmmm, I know you would need everything, spindles, rotors, calipers, lines, disc brake master cylinder and proportioning valve, question is what ball joints would mate up to the new spindles and what tie rod ends would make this combo viable.
 
Thanks guys, i was not sure if the the 73 tie rods would work for me or not. I guess ill try to get as much as i can and go from there.

You'll definitely need 73 outer tie rod ends to mate up with your 67. I would go for new ones instead of old ones off the 73.

as Sacbill said, you need the tie rod ends (new preferred) because the taper is different. The power brake booster probably won't fit. I had one from a 73 Cougar and it was too much different but I'm sure you could use the proportioning valve and MC.

I'm collecting the parts for doing a conversion on my 68, and I've got the '74 Maverick M/C, which was designed for a manual disc setup. (Got the idea from juanpro, who did it on his 66)

I wouldn't give much more than $75 for the spindles because your gonna need rotors, pads, calipers (maybe), etc. The MC you might want get for a core, the proportioning valve is the hard to find/get item. I'd offer like $100 for the whole set-up and bargin from there...

I've heard the Maverick MC is the way to go for disc's...
 
I just pulled a free set of spindles off a 70 Mustang. I'm putting them on my 65. I called Dan at Chokostang and he set me up with everything needed. I'll be sticking with manual disks for now. According to Dan, I can add a booster at anytime if I dont like the manual set up. I had just the spindle with the caliper brackets. If youre looking for a standard set up(stock), Check Dan out, good price and very very knowledgeable.

To do the swap you'll need the spindles, calipers, rotors, combo valve (proportioning valve and distribution block), MC to DB lines, and flex lines. If they are in good shape, get them all. If not, just get the spindles and the caliper brackets. Your ball joints will be a direct fit. For your outer tie-rod, use new '70-'73 if your existing ones have a lot of miles on them. If your existing tied rods are relatively new, you can use the Mustang Steve bushings to convert you existing tie rods to the '70/later spindle.

Definitely go with the '74 Maverick Disk/drum MC. If you go with a booster, you'll need a booster, MC, and power brake pedal. You can use a '67 pedal if you go that route, or a '68-'70 pedal.

I would go with new flex lines (your '67 flex lines won't work). I used the '70 Russell steel braided lines from NPD on mine (so did SacBill). Wich ever lines you use, it will require adapters, available from your local parts store. The combo valve can be gotten from many places if you need it, including NPD. NPD sells 2 valves ... get the stock replacement. It bolts right in, and the other requires a bunch of work to install.
