Disc Brake Distribution Blocks

70 Mustang with front discs (non power) but the car is originally a drum/drum car. Is the drum/drum brake distribution block different than the disc/drum (non power) distribution block? I've looked in a bunch of the catalogs but haven't been able to find anything definitive. I know I need to put a proportioning valve in line, but do I need to switch out my distribution block? My thought it no, however my dad was told by the guy doing some work on his Coronet that it's very difficult to get the brakes dialed in using the drum/drum distribution block. But he's a Mopar guy, sooooooooo yeah. :dumas

Same distribution block, dial it with a pv.

Right conclusion; wrong premise...

Starting in 1970 disc brake cars used a distribution block with a built in proportioning valve; the drum brake cars used a distribution block without a proportioning valve. In 1969 the proportioning valve was external to the distribution block but there was still a different distribution block for disc and drum cars. Ford never offered a non-power disc brake for the Mustangs in 69 or 70.

That said, your 70 drum brake distribution block will work just fine (arguably better than a factory disc distribution block) with a properly installed and adjusted aftermarket proportioning valve. The factory valve was non-adjustable and a "best guess" at the proper bias; you can actually dial yours in exactly.

Good luck,

I'm just using the '70 combo valve in my '66, with no other mods (other than the '70 disk brakes up front, obviously). I'm using a '70 Maverick Disk/Drum Master Cylinder, and running manual brakes. The brakes are every bit as good as the '70 power brakes in my '69.
