I would put more faith in the malaria med chloroquine than this homeopathic approach, but it shows another potential approach to the problem. I doubt you'll see any studies done on this unless its funded by a hair dryer company. Sad but true.

A doctor friend of mine said that chloroquine is being used widely and is working.

At this point, I'm convinced this crap has been around months before china couldn't hide it anymore. No one knew what it was because there wasn't a test. Probably just marked it as pneumonia or respiratory infection.

You're right. I think first notice of it was back in Dec.

Well here in ohio we will be going to shelter in place starting monday at midnight. I have stayed around the house getting bored so now I think I have the cleanest house around because of the boredom. Next I will move to the garage and maybe get my mustang ready for this summer. I haven't even started it in about 2 1/2 years.

I wouldn't be surprised if the crud I had around Thanksgiving was this. All the same symptoms and a cough that lasted a month. My boys had it as well.

I understand the "stay at home" approach and frankly it's pretty nice for me to stay home! But I also have a few questions, what happens in 14 days? Are we waiting for a miracle? Meds to be discovered? 133 degree day?
2nd, what is the crazy need for toilet paper?

The 14 days is supposed to cover the maximum length of time from exposure to actually developing the disease. The thought process is that by keeping everyone in place and avoiding contact with new persons the spread can be contained. If someone develops the symptoms during this time they can get tested and if positive be quarantined.

Problem I've seen is Americans are even dumber than suspected. I took on the role as hunter/gatherer for two households. Mine and my daughter's. So twice now in the past 10 days or so I've run out to get supplies as I tried to stock up both houses with a couple to three weeks of food, etc. The second trip was to try and secure a few things that were unavailable the first trip.

Each time I was out, most frustratingly on the second trip which was early AM on Saturday, I saw large crowds out and about at the store(s). Standing around talking in big groups, etc. Worst though was the sheer number of FAMILIES I saw out shopping together. Mom, dad and kids all roaming around like a typical shopping excursion. WTF PEOPLE?! This whole attitude we've seen developing over the last couple decades of individuals seemingly thinking themselves so superior to everyone else. That only their lives and needs matter. Bunch of dumbasses. I sure wish there was a fatal disease that could target this morons specifically. A little Darwin action in the big pond wouldn't be so bad.

So, yeah. I don't think the whole 14 day effort will amount to much given the intellect of our society as a whole.

Thanks for the detailed explanation! I was kind of being sarcastic when I asked but I think a lot more people need to understand the specifics behind the stay at home approach.
But more seriously what is the deal with toilet paper?

Herd mentality Craig. It only takes one jackwagon to put 2-3 packages into their cart. That sets off an alarm in morons.

Like TERRY said, too bad this virus doesn’t target morons.

It's kind of funny but not really. In the South if they predict bad weather, like snow, everyone runs out and buys milk and bread. Historically when we get snow (which is rare) it is a dusting and often melts from the sunlight/solar heat even if temps remain below freezing. Nevertheless, EVERY time, people empty the stores of milk and bread. I've lived in KY 16 years now, I can think only of one snow/freezing rain incident that made it difficult to get out (not impossible). And that lasted a couple days, not hoarding milk and bread necessary amount of time.
My wife and I typically only shop for a few days at a time. In light of the 14 day thing we did try to prepare a list for meals so we wouldn't have to go out. We had to go to 5 different stores and still didn't get everything we had listed. My wife didn't want to go by herself, so I did go too but no socializing. Just in and out. That's how I prefer shopping anyway. But my point I guess, we saw all the paper products were gone. Now as I said we don't normally shop in such a way as to stockpile stuff so we don't have an abundance of paper products. We did run out of paper napkins but no big deal. We have two rolls of paper towels. Should last a while, no big deal. We have the "normal" amount of TP. a couple spare rolls per bathroom. Should last 14 days easy. But when we were checking out at one store, a lady ahead of us had hoarded TP and the store had clearly marked signs all over limiting the purchase of certain items. So the cashier limited the lady and took away many packages of TP from her. Since we were next in line we asked if we could get one of the packs. It was a 4 pack. So we were lucky and got 4 more rolls. But it made me think, if it wasn't so hard to find, I probably wouldn't have bought it. So this crazy hoarding of TP has caused an artificial shortage because I am sure other "normal" people probably do the same thing and pick up some TP now if they see some. I just don't understand what started the TP hoarding in the first place. Also I have noticed no one is hoarding fresh produce, all the stores we went to had plenty (except potatoes). I would think food would be much more important thing to have than TP...

The day before we closed my store for this madness I had a family in my store. Keep in mind it's a shoe store. No neccessities.

It was Mom, dad, 2 kids. One of them an infant.

They told me they had just gotten over being sick with the flu for 2 weeks, and were bored so they came out shopping. They said he is worried about not getting back to work and having no income. Then they spent over $100 on shoes and kept shopping.

Thanks for coming out!

So on a serious note, I get the idea of preventing the spread by keeping people away from each other and I get the 14 day time frame. And let's suppose for a minute people actually followed the instructions. What happens after the 14 days? If the spread slows or at least doesn't grow rapidly, do we start to go back to normal operations? or do we add another 14 days?

I guess I just assumed most folk in northern WI didn't even wear store bought shoes. How do they do basic math? ;)

The wife is like a fireman, sitting around until there is a burning building.
She works for the County of Riverside disaster preparedness. So the pandemic that is what they are all about. Gooberment worker, normally 9 to 5 Monday ta Friday. With this going on it is longer days and weekends too. This weekend they were testing down in Lake Elsinore at minor league Storm stadium.
