Correct me if I'm wrong...

but it doesn't take $12,000 to put in a semi-rebuilt EFI motor in a Mustang.

69 Mustang (Candy Red) - $3900 (Independence)
Date: 2009-10-07, 4:01AM CDT
Reply to: see below

I have purchased a Fastback and I am stripping this beautiful candy apple red 69 of a few parts. First what you get:
- A 69 everyday driver with a semi rebuilt 89 Grand Marquis 5.0 EFI engine and transmission (to much other technology to mention)
- A candy apple red paint job ( I have scratched and dinged it so you will need a touchup)
- Front Disc Brakes, dual mag flow exhaust, reupholster pony seats, pony in door panels, new carpet, new rear bumper, new brakes rear, hood scoop w/turn signals and much more. (replaced all rusted parts)
What you don't get:
- Chrome wheels ($2500 if you want them(need to bring your own))
- Stereo system ($1500 if you want it)
- Sterring wheel ($350 if you want it (but will give you the one off mines))
- Alarm System ($1100 if you want it)

For those of you who know and for those who don't know, the technology associated with making this engine switch successfully alone costed me 3X as much as what I am asking for the car. Once you have this technology you can duplicate it successfully in any car.

So, I will not except any offers or down payment to hold it. The price is the price. It is more than fair.

The car is located at: Schorr Transmission & Auto 1901 South M291 Highway, Independence, Missouri 64057 (816) 795-9665 having the transmission tweaked. Good time to go look at it and drive. Call David and tell him you would like to come by and see Chris's 69 Mustang. Ask him what is a good time to see it. Please don't ask him questions over the phone because he is always extremely busy. Schorr Transmission & Auto performed all the mechanical work and I am sure he will take the time to explain everything when you get there.

Call me with any other questions, when you want to drive it and when you decide to make your purchase. Chris 816-255-8319

Am I wrong? :wtf

While I do not know what it takes to install a newer engine in old iron, I do think this is one of the strangest ways to sell a car!

I made the switch to EFI and aside from the motor itself, the conversion was done for well under $1k.

$12k is freakin' ridiculous.... no, you're not "wrong".

Remember the VMF thread a year or so ago from the guy up in NJ who felt he was being taken advantage of by a shop that had billed him $19k to do some minor interior work?

There are idiots everywhere.

LOL!
Whoops either it sold or someone informed him of his "errors"

Man, someone is batshit insane. $350 for a steering wheel? $1500 for wheels? $1100 alarm system? That's a bit out there.

But 12k for the engine swap? I could have had a 5.0/A0D/driveshaft with wiring and all for $250 and have it going for ~$800. Someone has been hitting the 4-footer too much.

I'm not agreeing with the seller in the original craigslist listing, but these prices are not that "insane".....

LeCarra's Mot-Lita wheel with horn kit and hub adapter will reach $350 easily... PSE wheels with spinners, lug covers and lug nuts is closer to $2k.... Alarm system? Top of the line alarm systems can easily reach that amount. I won't go into details here, but my son has at least that in his alarm system.

Top of the line parts command a much higher price.

I was reading a thread on another forum where a member has a couple "Italian made for Shelby" steering wheels. The company is still producing these wheels although in very small quantities (hand made to some extent). The market is currently pricing these out at $2600. Now, that's insane, but it's supposed to be a really nice steering wheel....

:dumas

While I haven't installed it yet, I bought everything we need (lower/upper intake, fuel rails, injectors, plenum, computer, and harness), except for fuel pump and fuel line to switch my daughter's car over for under $200. I hope it doesn't take me over $11,000 to install it!
