Related Project Update

When I get the mustang back (its stalled again on buffing and striping), i will need to put it together. I started expanding my shop to include a 20x30 Assembly area.
Basically building a lean to between the existing shop and a retaining wall.

Need to span a 23.5 run. Since I'm doing it on the cheap - I am constructing beams with 2x10's and plywood.

JUL 21, 2018:
Ididit

Today i put the IDIDT Tilt column in the mustang over at the paint shop. Went in lickety split and looks great. I sprung for the Adapter kit from Chris Alston's' . Strangely - I had to use my old rack side universal. I guess the rack is 8years old - the new racks must have a d-shaft instead of a spline shaft. No harm no foul. everything went right in and looks great!

AUG 1, 2018:
Cutting and buffing done....assembly starting

the body assembly, brightwork and striping have started.

She's Home!

SEPT 5, 2018:
Got the 15th and 16th (final) beams built over the weekend with help from my dad, who drove down to Georgia.





Next step - the outside wall and renting a crane to lift the beams into place, so im less cramped.





On the car side - the stainless brake lines have been delivered, as well as the wiring harness and sound deadener.

SEPT 18. 2018:

Had a busy week.
1) ordered Street or Track 13.25" Fronts and 12" rear brake kits - Thanks Shaun - as always - you rock!
2) Made serious progress on the assembly area.

It was an intense couple of days. Special thanks to my neighbor Mike and my wife Nen. The three of us
were up there roofing like madmen to beat the anticipated rains of Florence (which never materialized)

Oct 2, 2018:
Building rather than Mustang progress

Not a huge amount of progress on the mustang, but the assembly area is coming along.

Got a dumpster and started the tear down of the old wood shop:







Got some Windels.




And some SmartSiding







There is some cement grinding to do before i put on the front and back walls.
Looks like there may be just enough room inside....

NOV 5, 2018:
Hello all,
well things had been stalled for a little bit. I ordered the Scott drake drum spindles and finally got the SoT front disks up this weekend. One of the ford drum spindles I had laying around had a damaged thread area, so I just ordered the new ones. Unfortunately, SD does not produce an EXACT copy, so I had to grind out the scalloped sides to accommodate the caliper mount. Not really a big deal - just an annoyance.

Overall - a very solid kit. I should hit the back next weekend with some luck...


I did do something dumb though. I test fitted the wheels and tires I bought off of Dodgestang for this project on the 65. It looks and drives AWESOME, so now I have to get another set of wheels and tires for the 67.








Inexplicably, the manual steering effort with these 17" 235/40's up front is significantly less the old 15" 215/60 falkens. /WEIRD/ but Ill take it!

FEB 20, 2019:
Update Feb 20 2019

Well, the shop expansion is almost complete. A few more trim pieces to put together and then paint. The floors are getting epoxy coated on 4/23.
The lift has been moved to the new shop. I need to insulate, put up sheetrock, run the air lines, move the compressor to the 2nd floor. Little stuff.

the car is waiting for me to do the sound deadener, the brake lines and the electrical.

MAR 19 , 2019:
Well,
the small distraction of constructing an assembly area is winding down. The outside of the shop is nearly complete. The Epoxy Floors are scheduled for the weekend of 4/26.

The lift has been repaired, moved to the new larger bay and (finally) is bolted to the floor - which should make dodgestang and my old man happy as neither liked it when it was free standing.

The building paint is largely complete - with only a couple more pieces of trim to hit with the white. I sprayed the entire building in under 3 hours! Nen hit the trim with a brush and got most of it in an afternoon. I have a 25 year old Campbell-Hausfeld HVLP paint sprayer that I bought to do 1 job all those years ago that just keeps on trucking. The thing remains awesome.

The next steps with the mustang are the sound deadening and brake lines....

Also shopping for a 2 post lift for the small bay.

JUL 2, 2020:
Ok, well it has been a while. The build is going slow. I had bought spindles from scott drake and subsequently received the recall notice. I was already not happy because I had to machine them to take the big disk brakes - as they had a different shape back plate.

I thought I would just get a set of factory spindles and get them finished. I also have heard unconfirmed reports of problems with the replacement run of the SD spindles.

I found an ebay seller that was selling chemically stripped and plated spindles, so I ordered from him.
What an ordeal. The guy is either completely dishonest or utterly insane.

I just had my first negative experience on ebay after 20+ years of buying and selling.
Beware MUSTANGMANBOB - a seller on ebay with over 5600 feedbacks and a 100% rating.

The cliff notes - ordered a set of plated and painted spindles. Received a set of junkyard pulled spindles that had not even been cleaned let alone plated and (in his words) detail painted.

The maddening/insane part is - mustangmanbob INSISTS - even when confronted with photographic evidence - that the parts are as described. It feels like I am in the Dead Parrot Skit in Monty Python. So - Caveat Emptor with this clown my friends. It's pretty rare to encounter someone who will carry the lie straight in the face of prima facia evidence to the contrary, so this guy is now my project.

DEC 20, 2021:
Well,
there is an update. for a while, every time I saved up for the motor, something happened at the house. NO SO THIS TIME. I just ordered the 520hp 427 Windsor Stoker turnkey package from Prestige Motors. Got a lot of input from here and elsewhere. very bullish on Doug over there. looking for delivery around 1st week of March..

Much to do in the meantime to prepare.

In a related query - has anyone here ever used the TKX 5 Speed transmissions? I have to research more - but wonder if they fit in the tunnel properly.....

JAN 9, 2022:
A very minor update. About 17 years ago, I bought a custom assembled bolt set from Bob Vervaecke (cloney). I wanted to do that again for the fastback. Bob was gracious enough to share his bolt source over on the FB version of the forum. I ordered them and installed them. They look fantastic!

for most of the under hood bolts. Those washers and bolts are offered in many sizes to fit everything. Only place I did not use was door hinges, due to strength/stress concerns. A little anti-seize paste is a good idea.
On the SS bolts, I chucked them in a drill and either polished the heads or used scotchbrite for satin finish."
