Checking on oil preasure

I have a 7 qt canton pan on and a paxton that holds 2 qts my thoughts are that 9qts.
9 qts in at start up im holding about 70lbs pressure then drops to about 40.
Am i running to much oil?

I am running a 7 qt pan as well and really did not think there was another 2 qts needed for the Vortech supercharger I am running. Do you really need that much oil. I assume that 7 qts would have been enough. I am running a high flow oil pump to assist the oil getting to everywhere as quickly as it needs to. 9 qts seems a bit much to me but I will be listening in to this thread as well.

I have the 9qt road race pan with Redline 30wt race oil. Above 2,000rpm it will go as high as 70-80#, drops to 50 at idle until the oil gets nice and hot, then it drops to 30-40# at idle. I have a Melling high volume oil pump. Been this way for the 5 yrs on the road/track, no problems so far.
