I found this thread on the other site. Many of you already know about it. I thought it would be deleted or locked, so I thought I would watch it.

Good for you Midlife. I didn't know you did this. I may have you do one for my 67. I have a new onein the front, but the rear is the orig. Pretty bad I think, may even be the source of my electrical problem.

I may have to rewire the entire car if I can't find the problem.

Electrical issues are so frustrating. I have to sort out a couple issues, 1- stereo got wet, 2- keep going through steering column harnesses.

I plan a new stereo and new steering column and box. If that doesn't weed out the issues...then???

Thanks for pointing out that thread.

No, I am not banned over there, but I do not post except for my restoration business. I did respond to MaserGT's concern about old, brittle wiring, but that is almost never a concern for the underdash area. The underhood area is especially prone to corrosion, brittleness, and bad wiring, which is why I will not work on those harnesses and offer a warranty.

OK, Frank I give, I am red in the face!

Randy, do you do the harnesses to the tail lights? My 67 has orig there and I am sure it could stand to be done. The rest of the car is done.

I don't like doing the tail light harnesses, as I cannot get anything to resemble the braiding. If you're only interested in functionality, I can do tail light harnesses easily enough.
 
The car is a restomod anyway and the trunk is carpeted, so the webbing is not important. Just thought the wiring under dash is new and under the hood, I should probably replace the one in the trunk all the way to the dash. I am planning to replace the steering column and wheel along with the steering box and or change to rack.

Randy, I've heard people (like CT) complain about this before, I dunno what the big deal is; I've seen fabric loom that looks like it ought to match the factory stuff. I confess, I haven't popped the trunk on my car in about 18 months, so I could be way wrong on what it's supposed to look like?
 
The original braiding used by Ford was made of cotton, and it is highly flammable. Today, it doesn't meet reasonable standards for use, and no one manufactures it anymore. I've even tried contacting a few companies to make me some stuff, and I haven't ever gotten a positive response. Hell, I paid $915 for a minimum run of two different resistor wires ( each 2000') to be fabricated, but can't get anyone to make this stuff.

In fact, the wiring used by Ford back then has insulation that is not allowed anymore in aircraft, and I believe in vehicles as well, due to its toxic smoke/fumes when it burns.
 
Someone on VMF referred me to a guy in new york that had the correct webbing back in 04. I sent my 71 tailight harness to him and got it back looking good. Can't remember who he was though.

Maybe CT would know.
