cheap/easy bug screen for the grill

I thought I would share what SacBill told me about a few years ago.

An quick and easy bug screen to use while traveling with our Mustangs.

Screen mesh from a hardware store.
Cut to shape of front grill opening.
Velcro pieces to attach, staple backing to screen and then sandwich grill between pieces to secure.
Easy to install and remove leaving a relatively clean grill/radiator, sans bugs.

Great idea! Also useful for an emergency coolant filter like gano!

Just curious, any idea of how much wind reduction there is by using the screen?? I know a window or screened in porch as a lot less wind flow than one without and was wondering if this same applied to a screen in front of the rad. Having asked that, apparently this is a non-issue correct?

Great Idea; simple and easy. I've got to do that for next summer. Mike, next time please get a lovely lovely model to show off your handiwork. You'll get many more hits on your posts. Remember my seat cover?

I use the same setup on Red for our Knotts and MITM journeys. Not enough air flow restriction to cause the temp to go up.

Del65, I have extra screen material if you want to make one. It's next to the engine stand.... :danc

But what about the bug massacre on your valance and license plate...?

I leave all the bugs on mine, it's the only way people believe that it gets driven.

That's proof that my '67 isn't just a show car...its driven. I also gave up on trying to keep the valance pristine. Its full of rick chips and bugs.

As for the airflow...never have had a problem, even when driven to Park City, Utah last year...through the Nevada and Utah desert.

I also have a roll of the screen to whomever might need it.

Me likey, cheap, simple and NO WELDING! I'll have to make one...when my car actually gets back on the road...until then I'll keep throwing bugs at the front.

I have never had a problem with bugs on the grill, the heat of the fire keeps them away.......

Concerning the original topic.......be sure to wax the grill good prior to installing the screen. It can and will act as a fine abrasive on the grill surface when the wind is hitting it. If you drive a lot, it can make a difference. It did on my Dad's truck grill.

It is very easy to remove and I only use it when driving a more substantial distance. Never really leave it on longer than the trip to get to a destination.

I never really noticed how you attached it. Looks good I think I will make one for my car once it actually runs! :run
