CAS Kenwood Dash Dual Speakers - Cone Disintegrating

I was installing my new gauge cluster and saw the speakers came off the mount... a screw came off each speaker. So, I took the speakers out to examine...

The rubber perimeter of the cone is disintegrating. Has anyone repaired one or used something to protect it from the sunlight/heat? Bought them back in '05.

Sounds to me like the surround is failing. Installing a surround repair kit is a pain in the whatzit and fairly $$, and that's *if* they make a kit for your particular speakers.

usually the dash speakers under the dash tend to "blow" because to much bass going through them. to save them when they are new is to add bass blockers/filter...its a trick since I have replaced mine 3 times. till i built my older kickpods. I still had crossovers on those to protect the speakers.
