Now I just need to borrow some time from one of you to install it.

Come over here, I'll gladly install it and tune it too. Heck we could put it on the lift and mess with other stuff too!

Oh, one catch, you'll have to fight the mud and snow.

Yeah, I'm excited to hear your review. I've had my eye on these carbs for a while.

Unfortunately, my brother has told me if I put any carburetor on my car other than a demon he's gonna punch me in the throat. (That's exactly what he said, too)

He put a Demon on his Olds 455 that he could NEVER get tuned out, it was his 8th carb, he'd done holleys, quadra-bogs, eddys, even tried a Predator. NOTHING made it run right. He could get it to run good at WOT, but just tooling around town it was either always missing, or rough idle, or hard to start.

Put that demon on there and tried to start it for the first time in almost a year and it fired right up, and ran as reliable as a sewing machine.

So I guess I have to buy a demon unless I want a punch to the throat, but I'm still curious about these summit carbs.

Looking forward to the out come form the carb. As for the demon. Mine was a pile of junk. I posted pic's of the porosity awhile back. But that don't mean that they are all that way. I probably just got one of the bad ones.

I got the 750 electric choke vacuum secondary rig.

I put it on the car this afternoon. Did not get any time to do any real adjusting.
Here's what I do know so far.
  • Fit and finish is excellent
  • starts with a bump of the key
  • Idles 300% better
  • is not a 1407 edelbrock

Same experience I had with the 600 cfm unit, except mine was electric choke. Only adjustments I made were the choke & idle settings. Based on how it ran and the plugs, didn't even bother with anything else.

Yeah....I think I'm going to have to put plugs in mine. They are probably fouled from the other carb.

The quality of Demons has gone straight down the porcelain god. Heck, summit stopped selling them, they were so bad. I don't have any personal experiences, but I've seen the pictures and I don't think I WANT to get any personal experience with them.

I think you're stuck taking a punch to the jugular, steve. :rofl

On the other hand, the summit carbs look like a cool clone between a 4100 and a holley...I hate holleys and this one is tempting me. :D

Don't know if you guys know it or not but Holley made that same carb back in the early 90s. They dropped it because of alot of problems with it. Since the base and the main body are one piece if you have something go wrong with it like warpage you throw it away. A friend of mine had one back in the day and had nothing but problems with it. Hope they got it figured out now. Keep us posted on how yours works out.

I read an article about the new summit carb a while back (not sure where it went, sluggo did you save the link?) and basically, what I've heard is that this is based on Holley's design, by the original designer, but that Holly had thrown out all the casts and molds, so when Summit bought the rights, they had the original designer re-imagine it, and he worked out a lot of the bugs of the previous iteration (Again, this is going from what I remember, I might be wrong.)

I have heard mostly good from everyone who has installed one on their car. The real test will be durability.

Adding some pics and comments.

Staged and ready to start the swap.

Old carb where it belongs. Actually about 3 feet from where it belongs. (Garbage Can)

The throttle cable bracket had been altered before to accommodate the Edelbrock. I cut the extension out and had one of the body men weld it back together. I did not bother making it pretty since I'm going to replace it.

The bracket required a little trimming to fit the new carb. Might not be necessary with out the prior modifications.

Mounted up and ready to start.
