Stay on top of it . Wear protective clothing & a hat not a cap . I'm sure you allready know all this but that stuff is serious.

Yep, 4”+ brim hat and 50 upf clothing. First found on my skin in 2019 and made its way to lung in 2022. Miracle of immunotherapy has me here today and looking to the future.

I'm not saying it can't or won't happen to me but my whole family on Dad and Mom's side have never had a skin cancer (knock on wood) - we're all dark haired and complected, rather easy to tan, lots of Native American background, outside all the time. I do put on sunscreen for beach trips and so on but I never have for just going out to mow etc. Granny always wore a big sun hat in the garden. I called it her SUNbrero when I was a little guy and didn't know any better.
I did the same thing. Blew me away. Congratulations.
Growing up in the early 70's sunscreen was not really a thing. I am sure that is when my skin got damaged. When I had hair it was blonde.
I needed melanoma on the scalp like I needed a hole in my head... well now I got one.
Standard of care is that they take a 2cm margin all the way around and for the scalp they have to grind into the scull to expose blood vessels to feed the skin graft.
Believe it or not those old people were pretty smart
Being blond headed,blue eyed & light complected i sometimes think about the time my buddy & i passed out for how long ? On a lakebank in the sun . I remember coming too & pulling the football jersey i had on over my head because it was baking . Passed out & woke up hours later . Cooked from my neck to my jeans on my back . I don't plan on really worrying about it until a Doctor says i should . Even knowing.mon died from a cancer about 10 years ago .
Worrying about the maybe's is a waste of time the might nots are just as good . Sadley a lot of us suffered uv damage when we were young . And it dose'nt show up till years later .
When or if it shows up all we can do is try to be rid of it .
Don't have to be like that for you young guys . Take steps now to protect your self . Being bullet proof only lasts so long .

I LOVED my older folks and still do.
My grandparents are long gone but I still miss their wisdom and witty sarcasm. Called my parents yesterday so I got a dose of Dad's pessimism and Mom's optimism, so they balance out pretty well. I drove last night to my out-laws' (haha!) and spent the night with them, took them to a doctor appointment this morning and now we're having lunch before I go home. It's GOOD to spend time with people that know more.
One of our illustrious members had a signature I've heard before...

Fact.
My parents & grandparents have been dead for a long time ,with mom dieing about 10 years ago . Growing up we lived next to my dad parents . I spent a lot of time at their house . No telling how many miles i walked with my granny picking wild blueberries & black berrys to sell to her customers or useing a spading fork to turn the soil over in her garden spot .
She taught me a lot of things before i married & moved away. Quilting,embrodery ( yea a guy can do that ) helping her prepare fruits & vegestables for canning. I tell my wife & kids all the time about being at her house and she would have me catch what ever chicken was for supper & kill it . Most of the time clean it . My grandpa worked cutting grass and clearing lots for houses in a upscale area up until he died. He let my cousins & i help him which he paid us for . Hard ass physical work . You don't think so spend your self 8 hours or so in the Alabama summer dragging,&pileing brush & trees up. Sometimes a week of it .Then the fun, burning it ,like the sun was not hot enough . I think thats where i got my work ethic from .
I miss them all . Looking back it was a dam hard life for all of us . Dirt ass poor but we all lived & ate & had a mom& dad and our grandparents .
My mom & grannny gave me my love for anything that blooms . It has flowers i like it even some of the weeds . My dad died in a wreck when i was 15 but he had allready had me helping him work on his cars for several years & roofing houses .. even before he died , i hated roofing work with a passion . Left me with one heck of a love for Cars . Fords in particular .
If i knew i would die tomorrow all i could say would be Thank you Lord it's been a.good.life .
