California car duster

How do you clean/maintain yours? It says on the case that it cleans better the dirtier it gets, but you have to clean it on occasion, right?

My Dad washed one once. When he was done, he went out and bought a new one............

The one I use is over 15yrs old and has never been cleaned, works great. I have broke the handle off a few of them by shaking them like a paint brush. Now I knock the loose dust off it by moving it like the action on a trombone or a thrusting action if you will.

Mine have reached a point where I can see that they do not clean as well as they should, so I do buy new ones every eight years or so. They are impregnated with wax, which is why you don't wash them. And, actually, I have had brand new ones leave streaks on my car so I like a moderately used one for the shows.

Yes, I have heard over and over that if you use a brand new one, it will leave streaks. So, you want to break it in, big time before you use one at a show.

Yes, never wash it. Just use it.

A new one should be placed on some newspaper for a day and then used a on not to dirty daily driver a couple of times. That should keep the streak to a minimum. It will eventually stop leaving streaks.
