Caddy CTS starting issue??????

After reading the thread about Scedd's new ride. It kinda appeared that some may have some knowledge on this subject.

My wife has a 05 Cadillac CTS 3.6. I recently changed the plugs (what a pain in the a$$), new K&N air filter and changed the fuel filter. It was hard to start after the fuel filter change of course. It would crank and continue to crank for a second or two after the key was released. After a few tries it pulled fuel to the pump and fired. It runs great now, with renewed power. However, the continued cranking after the key is released has been happening sporadically. It starts fine that way, but has me concerned. I've only witnessed it once, and shut it off and couldn't duplicate it. My wife says that it's done it to her a few times. Any concern here?

Most new cars are designed to crank for a certain time for engine start.....even after key release. If it fails to start, shut off the key and retry....new design.

Try this, just turn the key to start and release the key quickly.....it should start. My '11 Mustang is that way...no holding the key in the start position at all.

My car sometimes does a longer crank when started and shut off suddenly. The next start will crank a bit more.

That answer sounds right.
I had a look on the local Holden forums but didnt find anything.
But when i googled worldwide i came across this on a reply to a 2003-2007 CTS question-

The starter relay is controlled by the PCM and under some circumstances it may continue energizing the starter relay for some period of time.

Here is what GM says about it:
Some customers may comment that the engine starter will continue to run after the key is released.
For the 2003 through 2007 model years, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls the starter relay based on input from the key switch. When the ignition switch is held in the start position for 0.4 seconds, the PCM start timer is activated. Once the start timer is activated, the PCM will continue to crank the starter until either the engine starts or a no start time limit is reached.
Occasionally, the fuel pump module will take one or two seconds to build fuel pressure. Often this will occur after the vehicle sits overnight. During some vehicle starts, the customer may release the ignition switch key before the engine actually starts. When this occurs, the engine will then continue to crank until the engine starts or the no start time limit is reached.
This is a normal condition and no repairs should be attempted for this condition.

Sounds good. Wonder why it only started after changing what I did.

Changing the plugs likely altered the idle speed and start-ability. The computer saw the change and began to relearn startup and idle.

Newer cars are very dependent on learned information.

I'll take that answer.
