Bumper Guards?

Did all '67s come with front and rear bumper guards or were they an option? When I got my car, it didn't have them installed and I was thinking about adding them when I get to that point of my resto.

Yes the bumper guards were standard equipment. However the front guards had a strip of rubber on them, but I forget if that was early in the production run then they made them all chrome later or if I have that backwards. Myself I did not like the rubber strip, so and found ones without.

I added them on the back of shag painted body color with rubber bumper. Looks mighty fine. Front has no bumper guards.

The rear painted the body color with the rubber strip, as they all were from the factory. Your sig pic has the front bumper guards. :nut

The '67's had front and rear bumper guards as standard equipment. The fronts were chrome with a rubber strip and the rears were body color with a rubber strip. Some of the available reproductions are not drilled for the rubber strip.

**Editorial comment: though they are called "bumper guards", they really don't protect the bumpers or anything else for that matter from anything more formidable than a watermelon, they are a styling feature.

Did they switch to the chrome without rubber strip in '68 or was it a running change in '67 or '68?

Good question. I don't know. I suspect that cost saving changes were likely after the "strike" during the '68 model year. Examples of cost driven changes include the less expensive rear side marker reflectors, the deletion of the "knee pad", and pillar post pads. I'm sure there were others.

The rear bumper guards color should match the Le Mans stripes .Thats what they told me.
Front bumper guard WITH rubber strip ? Never knew it for a 67 68 models??

my 67 had front one's with no rubber strip or holes. I doubt they were repop as when I got the car it was pretty much all original (junk, but original).

Speaking of awesomeness, look what I just remembered having buried out in my shop. A set of NOS 65 guards for both front and back.

The rear bumper guards that came with my car were chrome with the rubber.

They might have been replaced at one point though.

Amber came with chrome up front with no rubber, painted in back with rubber. I changed to chrome with rubber on back.
