Building a motor over time to hide it from SWMBO, best starting "Block"?

I'd add compression ratio in there as well... higher compression along with a snappy cam seem to give a distinctive crispy sound IMO...
 
"Sound" at a given operating RPM is not the goal for me, overall characteristics is what I like. This has very much to do with how quick something revs and the Firing order. I love the sound of a 428 SCJ, but lets be realistic, it sounds nothing like a 289. It does not move as quick or feel as light etc..

I "was" running the 351 F.O on the 289. Compression was 10.5:1

how quick something revs is primarily controlled by how much power the engine makes, gear and vehicle weight.

with the same gear and vehicle weight a low power engine is going to accelerate through the RPMs slower as compared to a higher power engine.

free reving a 289 doesn't move the vehicle.

Dude, you totally missed the point. But thanks for playing. I dont want a big motor car, and yes, if you have two motors with the same HP and TQ numbers the shorter stroke car will rev quicker even under load.
