BRICK sales and donations for War on Terror Memorial

I will start by apologizing to all of you. I have been very busy with school and my Eagle project, but here is the update. My Eagle project (the base to the memorial-concrete, grass, etc) is finally complete. I am working on my last merit badge to make my Eagle. Donations and brick sales have been, well, awesome! My goal was to hit 50% of the $30,000 by Jan 1, 2014. We met that. Stangfix held the top spot for group sales until 9/11/2013 when NASCAR bought 10-$200 bricks. That held until last week when a local Insurance group (The Pierce Group) gave us a check for $2500. The NC Submariners gave $500, a local Exchange club gave $300 and a whole bunch of $100's have come in. Brick sales have been up and down as I speak to different groups.

I can now order the marble center piece which is 4000 pounds and going to be gorgeous. The mount for the WTC steel was completed last week and shown to me. WOW. I am trying to get the filler bricks wholesale to save some money and maybe have enough to get some benches. My new goal is to be able to finish brick sales by April 1. The marble will take 4 months to be cut, polished, engraved and delivered. Then all the bricks can be installed. With the base being a pentagon there is alot of brick cutting on the outside edges.

Dad got me the shelby back end for my 68 coupe on Christmas, engine is done, getting ready to put the Heidt front end in. Thanks for the calendar. Hope my car is on it some day.

Sounds like you are moving along CONGRATS on your efforts. Where is it being built? I am in Fuquay and would love to swing by and take a look. Perhaps I can take a few pics and post them here.

David,
Glad to receive your scout project update. Some time, please post some pics of it.

Veterans Park Holly Springs is where hos project is. In the center of the subdivision behind Sonic on old 55.
David also has a Facebook page for the project. Look for DG War on Terror Memorial. My daughter Kelly (A code 65, and 07 pony) keeps it up. Should be current.

We were able to order the marble in early Jan. for the memorial. They said we needed a 4 month lead time. Yesterday they called and said that they found a piece in their yard that was exactly what they needed. Now they have to bring it in, shaped into a pentagon and start polishing it before they can engrave it.
David is compiling the invite list and we are rapidly trying to get speakers. We may have to have a local Senator and Mayor speak but the letters went out to Pres. Bush and Giuliani. We also are trying to get Rusty Wallace to represent Nascar But his son may be racing trucks the night before. David has his speach done and even though the dedication is months off, we are all nervous.
Sam was born on flag day june 14 1975 and that is why we are having the dedication that day at 1000. Hope there are Mustangs there.

Sam

Sam,
Thanks for the update. Yes, hopefully we can get some local Mustangers to attend especially since it's on a Sat.
