B.J. Pricing

I haven't even started to watch my recordings of the BJ show but I'm sure the prices are high as usual. Its a lazy man's way to get a classic so they pay the price.

I've had it on in the background the past 2 days and there have been some decent deals. No real steals, and especially not when you tack on their commission. Nice to take a look at the cars, but I hate that them televising the auction has resulted in everyone and their mother thinking their rusted, crap-tastic, poorly finished car is worth the big bucks "because one just like it sold at Barrett-Jackson for $50k".

Kinda' like when my neighbor comes over and they show a red Boss 429 go across the stage for $200,000 and he says " Hey, you have a car just like that one" Ummm....Not exactly. :wth

Tell him you'll sell it to him for $100,000 and he can double his money.

Around here it's bad because all the cars here are so rusted out there is not much left to restore, but everyone thinks their cars are worth a fortune.

One small problem with that....he has as about as much disposable income as he has car knowledge.

OKAY,OKAY At least I'm trying to learn. :roll

So I saw this 70 vert sold for $38,500, so Mine must be worth that too right? :confu
Maybe I'll put it on CL for $30,000.

I always reserve judgement on the "Deal" until I see the underside of the car. Some of the "Good" deals on weekday cars at Mecum or BJ have overlaping patches on what used to be the floor.

But, did anyone notice the white fastback with the blue stripes that went under the hood and the stripes were on the bottom of the deck lid?

I have seen that same car go across the block on two different Mecum auctions where it did not hit the reserve. I find it interesting that the owner took it to a no reserve auction. But, it went for over $50, and that shocked the hell outa me.

If that's the one that had the "GT 500" marking on the rockers, then yeah...I was shocked it went for so much too. No idea why it would say GT 500.

Yea.. I saw that one. The stripes reminded me of Trouble's underside stripes. Probably some millionaire buying it for his son's 16th birthday.

I'm not into it like I once was but I have seen several cars go at other auctions (and even Barrett Jackson Palm Beach) then appear at the Scottsdale auction. I would say the average was a 30% increase than what was previously paid. Given the seller's commission that's pretty darn good money for only a couple months investment. It's funny but a couple of years ago at Scottsdale one of the narrators was giving his pitch on where to look for the VIN numbers, he bent down and opened the driver's door to show the camera and wow, there was a closeup of a severely rusted and it even had holes in it. The camera quickly switched to an overhead view and the narrator changed the subject. Talking about being caught off guard.......

I watched for about an hour tonight, and to me, the sale prices seemed very low, lower than what they should be. But hey...I really can't tell the condition of these cars without spending time up close and personal.
