AT&T U-Verse?

Does anybody use this? Just wondering. I have an option for a good package deal, TV, high-speed internet and cell phone. Just want to hear reviews.

if you're a techie person and like figuring that kind of stuff out, you'll like it--a lot of options and endless features. on the other hand, if you like simplicity and are easily frustrated when searching through endless help screens, you might find it challenging. And if your entire system (tv, phone, and internet) shuts down, don't expect them to treat it as an emergency--they'll get to it when they get to it.

I have AT&T wireless service with my iPhone, and they have the worst coverage/signal strength ever. I cannot wait to switch. I travel a lot and have problems daily getting signals wherever I am. In fact, if I'm on the 3G network, I will drop 8 out of 10 calls. If I lock my phone into E (Edge) mode, I only drop maybe 1 out of 10. Once Verizon has their new 4G network out, I'll be switching.

Being that when I work it is traveling the West, I would stay away from anything AT&T. The coverage is not very good! I have Verizon and have way better coverage. As far as any of the other stuff, I would personally stay clear of anything bundled!

I already have ATT for my iPhone and don't have horrible issues...fortunately, but that's here in LA. I hear San Fran is awful.
We have Time Warner for internet and cable and they are sucking us dry.

I use them for TV and Interweb at the house, my cell is with Sprint. I have no issues with the TV or internet. I like that if you have a Flickr account you can view your pictures via the cable and see them on your TV.

Back when U-Verse first became available here about a year ago , I tried it. Unfortunately, AT&T did not have the infrastructure in place to make it work reliably. It took nearly 4 weeks of daily communications/visits from the installation people replacing everything from the telephone pole in, some pieces multiple times. The gateway would freeze up after maybe 10 minutes necessitating a system wide hard re boot. By the fourth week, I told them to either fix it or get it out of my house.........

Since that time I have had a number of AT&T sales people try to get me to sign up. When I tell them that the only way I would consider U-Verse is if they put up $5000. 00 cash and they have one week to get it working reliably or I keep the $5000.00. Apparenlty, none of them are willing to take the risk...........

I've got uverse for tv and internet. So far, I've liked it and haven't has any major issues. One thing I don't like is the router that is used. It's massive, ugly and not user friendly when it comes to configuring it. Other than that, I like it. Got the u200 package, hbo, dvr, and 2 other cable boxes for the other rooms. Runs me around $150 a month.
And yes, their cell service sucks out loud. Not much I like about it.

I want to make sure of a few things...
1. They are going to have the channels I like to watch and the service is good.
2. The "High-Speed" Internet is as good as the Broadband Cable from Time Warner.

Once again, the cell thing is a given since I need it for the iPhone but it's ok here in L.A. Could be much better, that's for damn sure.

I guess if I go with it, I better watch everything I have on the DVR I currently have..!!! :roll

My experience with AT&T is that they have THE worst customer service of any company I have ever dealt with. I personally HATE AT&T!!! They shut my phone and internet service off by mistake. I work from home when I'm not travelling and need the internet to connect to our VPN. They said since the service got disconnected I would have to go thru all the checks and wait 3 days. I was pissed and said since they screwed it up they need to fix it. I will spare you all my frustration with completely useless idiots that workfor employed by AT&T and just say it was about 3 days before they finally got it fixed. Never once did any of those A-holes even attempt to try and pretend that they cared that they screwed me. All them just passed the buck, didn't return calls and to top it off when they finally sent a technician out, he said they wouldn't give him the permission to do what he needed to do so he had to leave and come back a different day. And when they finally got hooked up, they got my fax & phone number backwards. I'm afraid to ask the incompetent imbeciles to fix it for fear of what they would screw up. If I had a choice for a different provider I'd take it. :rant :bomb :char :roul
Did I mention I HATE AT&T?
But hey, good luck with your decision!

This post reminded me of a non U-verse issue I had several years ago with AT&T. At the time, my client was moving their entire operation from one location to another. Logistics were extensively prepared in advance and involved moving voice, data, and VPN servers. A final meeting was held 10 days before the move involving the general contractor, several sub-contractors, consultants, and an AT&T project engineer. Everyone was in agreement as to respective responsibilities and duties and appeared to be reading from the same page. Apparently copper and fiber optics divisions don't talk to each other and on the eve of the move, we are advised by the AT&T project manager that they can't deliver the service in the previously structured time frame. If it wasn't for the client being an Enterprise Account it would have been a cluster f*ck. Needless to say, superhuman efforts were expended over a three day weekend and on Monday morning all 70 employees plus hundreds of their customers using the VPN had service. IIRC, AT&T paid for all the overtime at our end and I would expect that someone at AT&T fell on their sword but that wasn't our problem. Later, servers were relocated to a Southwest Bell COLO site. At some point AT&T acquired SW Bell. When the COLO site could no longer accomodate the client's growing server needs under the contract, AT&T resisted attempts to move the servers to another AT&T COLO site with adquate capacity. Again, being an Enterprise Account made a difference. I am reminded of the Lily Tomlin routine as Ernestine the telephone operator: "We are the phone company, we are omnipotent...."

I also have AT&T U-Verse. We had a pair of salespeople going door to door promoting the U-Verse thing. We already had AT&T as our internet (SBC global) provider. They basically were offering for free to upgrade to the fiber network, but then started pitching "cable" service as well. At the time we had charter HD with a DVR. Well with U-Verse you could record 4 programs at once. But what sold me was when they said that the NFL Network was part of their service. Only downside of the service was that we needed a "box" for every TV, and every box = $$. Before I had 1 box with the DVR and all of the premium channels, and basic cable in my other rooms of the house. So now I only have 2 TV's, one in the living room and the other in the bedroom.
I had a similar problem as Jeff, but they were able resolve the issue by busting out the front of my driveway and installing a 30 inch green tube there. They did replace the cement they busted out. They were out in a day or so to troubleshoot the problem, and it probably took 2 weeks from the beginning of the problems until it was resolved, cement poured and all of that. I did not have the issues with customer service that others have had.
I also have AT&T as my cell phone service. They are no better or no worse than others that I have used. I have used Version, and Nextell for company phones. My area has been all over SoCal.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

We use AT&T for our cell phones and I cannot wait for my contract to be up in July so I can change providers.

Dropped calls, etc are a real problem with AT&T. In the office, my phone doesn't work on one end of the office where the conference room is...works "ok" in my actual office if I lean next to the window. Our COO has AT&T also and was complaining so the IT guy installed a signal booster in a spare office and that did nothing to improve the problem. I don't need my cell in my actual office where the cell phone works (sort of) ...I need it to work when I am down the hall in case the school has to call me should the boys get sick or have some sort of emergency. Frequently, co-workers with Verizon, etc walk past me in the hall talking on their phone while mine gets zero reception.

I am getting rid of AT&T pretty much the day my contract ends and I am counting the days. Not sure who exactly I am going to switch to but I am not signing another contract with AT&T.

Don't know about the rest of their products since we have Comcast for cable, internet and home phone....
