Anyone have any experience with these guys?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/AOD-Performance-Transmission-Ford-Mustang-550-HP-2-Year-Warranty-No-Core-Charge-/221157383892?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item337e01ded4&vxp=mtr

I'm going to swap out the C4 for an AOD. Adding up the parts needed using this transmission and buying all the odds and ends it looks like it will tally up to about $1700 using this transmission.

Looking at PATC, I'm looking at about $2700 if all else is equal.

What would make the PATC tranny worth $1000 more? Nick - I know your answer!

Parts I am looking at in addition to the AOD itself:

Crossmember
TV Cable
Torque Converter
Torque Converter Nuts
Speedo Gear
Flexplate
Selector Shaft Linkage
Trans Mount
Block Plate
Dipstick

In addition I guess I'll have to modify the driveshaft.

Any thoughts?

Precision Performance in Bristol right of 13 if he is still in business. I haven't been there in 5-6yrs though.

He hates AODs though and might not want to do it. He is an interesting person.

Things to ask yourself.

Lock up versus non-lock up.

This is one price driver in rebuilds. The lock up version of the AOD contains a 2 peice input shaft and is the weaker option but gives you the lowest cruise RPMs between the two. You have a warmed up 302 with heads and a cam depending on your driving style you might want a non-lock up. This cost more. The ebay one might be a standard set up. Your decision will also impact the torque converter selection since they are different splines. It will come with nuts.

AODE internals - the AODE had many upgraded part as I understand it and using AODE/4r70w internals in an AOD case with a valve body that works off pressure and not electronics will give you the strongest in theory build. You can do alot of reading on clickclickracing forums. Silver Fox is a member there who builds trans and has made a few of the people there very happy.

I think you have an edelbrock carb...if so make you also need to buy the special edelbrock specific adaptor for the TV cable (they make one special for a holley too)

You will need a shorter driveshaft, the AOD is longer than a c4. Street or Track sells a really nice 3 inch aluminum one that I have used. successfully over the years.

I bought a 'linkage' to use the AOD with my stock shifter...it still needed to modified and looked like something I could have built with all thread and 20 minutes in the ACE hardware aisle.

The 'swap' tubular Crossmember I bought and used also had to be modified. The e-brake cable line holder thingy was in the way of the trans and the plate was too far forward. We took it apart and rewelded it work.

I was replacing a c6...so I was able to reuse the transmount and the block plate. The dip stick came with the trans when I bought it. Your old speedo gear should also work...unless it is not accurate now and you want to replace it at the same time.

You didn't mention the small wiring harness for the neutral safety and backup lights. I don't have reverse lights on my car and never bothered to wire up the neutral safety...so yes I could start the car in gear and have all sorts of bad things happen.

The 4r70w is a considerably better trans than the aod slush box. No tv cable that can kill the trans, but it does need an electronic controller.
