AOD Swap?

What would I need if I decided to go with an AOD instead of a T5 in my 69.

Has functional FMX in it right now.

1) Proper flywheel
2) "Block plate"
3) TV cable setup (Lokar)
4) Connector for neutral safety / backup light switch
5) Conversion crossmember (can make your own)
6) AOD / T5 yoke for your driveshaft
7) The AOD is wider than the C4 / FMX and you might have header clearance problems - you might have to change headers.

There are several options on shifters. I know you can easily adapt the factory shifter on a '68 using a linkage rod kit from Performance Automatics, but others have made their own. I can't speak to a '69 shifter. Some have adapted cable shifters, which is an entirely different approach.

There's lots of info on this out there, and it's hard to sift through. I bought a "built" AOD from PATC in LA and it was a piece of junk. I fried it twice, had to rebuild it twice, and the second time replacing most of the hard parts. Look at their site for info, but buy nothing from them.

There's a website called clickclickracing that has lots of good info. Get Silver Fox to build you one. He's the man. He ended up supplying the valve body that made mine work correctly.

Then there's AOD-E and the 4R70W if you want to go electronic. You have to buy a controller, etc. if you go that route. The 4R70W has a different gear set, also.

Money in the checkbook.

To me the only reason to go AOD is if the car is already an auto and you dont want to bother punching a hole in the firewall for the clutch linkage.

Though Red already has an AOD, I plan to put a T5 into it, with daughters permission of course.

If you're running a B&M shifter, there's an adapter kit that is required. It looks like it's a different shift arm. I have one sitting up on the shelf if you need one. I was originally gonna do the AOD swap, but went with a TKO instead.

So.....If anyone is looking for an AOD for cheap lemme know. Guy wants to unload it cheap. Recent rebuild.

couple questions:
first, would it take a vagina to adapt an AOD to a 429?
second, would it survive?
third, how cheap is cheap?

I don't know if I'd be jumping in line to install an AOD behind the TQ/HP of a BB Ford. The only way I'd do it is if the AOD had been built/reinforced to handle the additional power.

I kinda figured that. I sure would like to have an OD but just don't have the funds right now to do a TKO. I guess I'll just use more gas for the time being!
